Ah, okay. But....
If you get to a point where you really consider shooting, you have to make sure that "food" is not the reason his BG is high. You want to make sure that the number you are considering came from a time when he had not had any food to eat for at least two hours or more. Otherwise, you are shooting a number that isn't really as "high" as you think it is once you give his pancreas ample time to fight off the rise.
I haven't run any kind of curve on Bob since he went off the juice, so I don't know what his numbers go up to at the high point after eating. I suspect he might get close to 100, but don't really know. I test him now about every 10 days, just whenever I happen to think about it during the day or night. Totally random times. But I've never caught him higher than 69. I've also never tested him 60-90 minutes after dinner, but maybe I'll try that next time just to see. Night before last I checked him and got a 53.
I remarked to the vet tech yesterday when Bob had an appointment that "last night I tested him and got a 53". I thought she'd be thrilled! She looked at me all concerned and said "well, that's sort of low, isn't it? I thought, OMG, she doesn't have a clue what "normal" is???? So I said, "Well, that was on my relion meter, not an alphatrack", and she nodded, smiled, and said "Oh, OK!" Jeez.
