Okay I'll test again around 3.5. I'm just worried bc he normally drops after 3 and keeps dropping until +6.
 
Feeding him HC will help stop it right? As long as I can get food in him consistently? Ofc he's oblivious to all of this playing with his favorite toy. :rolleyes:

We can control the drop with food. But we don’t want to fill him up too soon! Do you have honey or karo if needed?
 
Beware.....some cats drop alot when they play. My Sprocket used to drop about 100pts but only when he played for about 20-30 mins straight.
So play is good but dont let him go too bonkers...lol.
You got all you need to balance him tonight.
For me its now almost 230am. I am up at 6am still as my cats are still on Sprockets old schedule so I will check how you are doing when I get back up.

He's at 76 now and I've already given him some HC food....how long does it take to hit his system?
 
Okay at +4 it's 77 so we're holding steady with the feedings. I'll check him again in 30 minutes and then feed more if necessary.
 
Now the problem is he's playing with his brother...should I try to stop him from playing since it'll reduce his BG? They both have the nightly cat crazies.

I'm sure it will be fine to have a little game..just not for more than 10/15 mins. He's probably feeling great because his BGLevel is in the normal range at the moment.
 
Yeah since I've had him on the insulin he's had a lot more energy and been playing a lot more. I hadn't noticed how lethargic he was before but he's not too much of a player to begin with. I always joke he's like an old man even though he's only 4. My poor younger cat is always trying to get him to play and he won't. He's feeling great rn meanwhile I'm panicking lol.

No. I would give a tab of ordinary low carb and see if we can get him to surf.
74 is basically the same number as 77 so he is doing well.
We'll test again in 30 mins to see how he is going. Are you ok with that?
 
Yeah that's fine. I'll see if he'll eat some LC, he's been snacking for a bit so who knows when he'll decide he's full. I'm still going to test every 30 for a while.

Edit- I'm giving him a little bit at a time to make sure he doesn't overeat and vomit or something bc I'm pretty sure he did that yesterday.
 
We're at 66 +5 :nailbiting: went ahead and gave a little more food just to keep him coasting.
 
Some more of the LC food with a little bit of gravy. He also got one HC cat treat for being so good and letting me stab his ear for the millionth time tonight.

Hopefully he'll be reaching his nadir soon.
He has been a very good boy and deserves a treat!
You are doing a great job keeping him safe!
 
I know, I'm so lucky he's so good about me doing all this. Of course if anyone else tried to he'd probably freak out but I'm glad he's let me do blood tests so much. I'm just hoping he goes back up after his nadir, it was weird earlier and he pretty much plateaued after he hit it. He went up a little bit but not significantly, hence what got me into this in the first place.

I don't think you can go to sleep just yet.
Don't feed any more unless he drops again.
We need to get 2 hours of rising ( or not dropping) BG levels without any food before we can say he is safe to leave.
 
+6 we're at 92, so that's up a bit. I haven't given him much food this hour but idk how long the previous food would take to hit his system.

I think you can leave it an hour to do the next test. It should be an hour now since he last ate, right? So if he is still not dropping in an hour, then you should be ok to go to bed.
If you think you will wake with an alarm, you could go to sleep for an hour.
 
Yeah he last ate when I posted an hour ago I think? I'll test him again at +7 bc I think he's getting fed up with me stabbing his ears. The real struggle is going to be in the morning if he's not back up deciding what to do but the vet should be open by then I think.

If you are unsure how much to give at AMPS because he has not risen enough, I would stall and post and ask for help.
I am not a Prozinc user so can't help you there, except to say that 2 units was enough to bring him down into normal numbers.
He could bounce tomorrow from the low numbers this cycle.

Just a couple of things moving forward. I would choose either to use the human meter or the Alphatrak meter as using both is very confusing for helpers and things could get missed. I know you were running short of Alphatrak strips.

Also I would go through all your higher carb food cans and put the number of carbs on the top of the cans and do this with new ones you buy as well. When a kitty drops low and you need food fast it is easy to make a mistake with what you are feeding.
I was recently helping someone with low numbers and the cat kept dropping despite the food. It was only later it was discovered the food was low carb, not higher carb food as thought.

You have managed everything really well tonight....is this your first pyjama party?
 
Thank you, I'll definitely do all that! He had low numbers from the last cycle which was why I was worried about dosing him at all and gave the two units. He was only diagnosed 3 weeks ago and yes this was my first pajama party. We're still trying to figure out his dose so I'm just managing a lot of things at once lol. The vet said he would be fine if I gave him a dose, which maybe he would have been but I didn't want to risk it.

He is responding well to the insulin which is really good. Not all cats respond so quickly.
It is hard in the beginning to get your head around it all. Testing is one of the best things you can do for him. That will keep him safe.
If you are unsure about anything, always ask and someone will help. Trust your instincts.

This is an understandable feeling. I think this is one of the biggest things I struggled with when I first started with Harley. But over these past 10 months, I have learned (for me personally) FDMB members personally care so much about each individual cat and their well being they would never put them in danger and honestly know so much more about feline diabetes than any of my vets have. It took me a hot minute to go against my vet - but when I did I started seeing better numbers in Harley and his reactions to insulin.

suggestion for you spreadsheet.
Put it all on one sheet and for the alphatrak readings put (AT) next to the number.
You can always put the color in manually.
