Now that Tiggy is in remission, we have commandeered a friends cat with diabetes to see what we can do with him. he hs been an untreated diabetic for over 6 months and is super skinny and weak. its very sad. Anyway we are working with the vet to get him better and he is started on insulin 1/2IU twice a day. Heres the weird thing. We noticed we are smelling the insulin 2 hours after the shot.

The first time I thought we had given him a fur shot but we are now being careful and when you smell him right after the shot and feel for liquid theres nothing so its not a fur shot and its not leaking out the injection site. And nothing 30 mins later, but literally 2 hours later you can smell the insulin.

Can it be diffusing through the skin? His skin is real thin and there is not fat in the skin layer since he is skin and bones.. any ideas???

aww poor baby, perhaps it is because he is so skinny as you say

I hope you get him back in shape, the poor baby

Doesn't look like anyone does. The vet doesn't either. Very odd. If it hadn't been for the fact that we shaved him in spots and have done this many times with our other cat, I would think fur shot.. But the smell doesn't start till 2 hours later and there is no wetness after the shot. Maybe it doesn't matter. It's just weird.

I think it's a fur shot. I noticed this on my Boomer (GA) too. All of a sudden I'd pet him and smell the insulin much later. It didn't happen all the time, but sometimes. I used Lantus. What are you using?

PS - I think it's incredible that you are helping this cat!!! Are his numbers better? That would be one way to see if these are in fact fur shots. Do you have a ss for this cat?
