casey is 61 at +4. She's never been this low. My next test would be 2 hrs from now. Should I retest sooner to make sure she isn't dropping lower? Should I give her a snack or would that mess up my curve? Help!

Thanks Sue. She was 59 1/2 hour later so I gave her 1/2 can of ff and a pure bites chicken treat. Shoul I test again in a half hour?

You did a nice job catching a lower number. Next time when you provide a snack to maintain or increase his number, you may want to consider just a little food instead, say a tsp or a little more instead of a 1/2 can. You really don't need much food to boost up the BG number and you don't want to fill up his tummy so if his number still continued to drop, he would still be hungry and willing to eat for you. If you are catching a lower number, and it is above say 50 (for a human meter), then it is good to start off with the regular low carb food. Test in 20 minutes and if it looks like it is dropping, then administer a tsp of medium or higher carb food, then retest in 20-30 minutes later. It is good to get several tests indicating an upswing in the numbers before you stop testing.

Thanks, those are good suggestions. She had never dropped that low before so I wasn't sure what to do. I have, of course, read what to do but when faced with it was in a bit of a panic.

First, you need to decide how low you are willing to shoot. Some people think 150; some say 180. It's your comfort level and whether you can monitor.

Today's cycle is a little surprising. You've given one unit on a 350+ before and she didn't drop as much. You may be looking at a different scenerio and not be able to rely on what worked previously.

I am always cautious giving dose advice. She may bounce, but I'd still be cautious. If your .5 made her drop her drop around 80% today, I'd think I might consider a drop.
