Hey everyone I haven't posted in a long time so sorry but I was wondering if Lantus is made by different companies
Money is very tight right now and I found someone on craigslist selling a bottle of Lantis for very cheap
It says it's Lantice you 100 everything looks the same except the box packaging is different and it looks like it's just a different manufacturing company so would it be the same and safe to use?

Re: Does Lantice have different manufacturers?

Oh and I did check it doesn't expire until next year so I would have it used before it expired

Re: Does Lantice have different manufacturers?

Lantus is still on patent and not available as a generic. The only manufacturer is Sanofi-Aventis. See this link regarding "generic" Lantus.

The best alternative is to see if you can purchase a single pen. There is a discount card available so you shouldn't have to pay more than $25 per pen.

Re: Does Lantice have different manufacturers?

I actually use the vials and I guess my question is just 10 the packaging look different. Mine looks like the picture here
With the black and purple checker boxes. And the other picture is the actual one for sale that is for sale

Re: Does Lantice have different manufacturers?

The one for sale looks like it might be a forgery. Note that the manufacturer is given as "Aventis"--not "Sanofi Aventis". I can't read the complete manufacturer's name on the bottle itself, but it looks like it could be "Aventis Pharma[ceuticals]". What does it say on your bottle of real Lantus?
I don't think I would want to take a chance on this!!

I'm not sure. I'm out of town today but I'll look when I get home tonight.
I was thinking maybe it was an older bottle like earlier packaging

Re: Does Lantice have different manufacturers?

I just did a Google Search for Lantus vial and found the exact same picture you posted I think

Interesting.

i think that vial (advertised) looks just like what i bought. in fact, i would say i'd had both of those labels and used them for punkin.

Lantus is still under patent until 2014, so there's no generic, but it's always possible the manufacturer has changed the label and the box. i don't know, and i'm not sure how to tell. i did buy several boxes of pens off of Craigslist and had no problem with them. The woman's dad was diabetic and had died so she was selling them. All of them were within the expiration date and she assured me that all were kept in the fridge. I want to say I paid something like $250 for 4 boxes (20 pens), which is as much as one box of pens retail.

So i think it's possible to get a good buy on Craigslist, i just am not sure about the label variation, although as i said, i kinda think i've had both of those boxes/labels and i bought all of my vials from the same drugstore. I think i would call the manufacturer tomorrow and ask if they have used more than one design on their label and box, just to be sure.

btw, sienne's point about the pens is that you can switch to the pen and still use your syringes with it. the insulin is the same. it's basically like buying a mini-vial - 300ml instead of 1000ml. don't buy the pen needles that they'll try to sell you with the pens, you're going to use your regular syringes. the only difference is how you draw the insulin into the syringe. watch the video on the yellow starred sticky: "Lantus/Lev: Info, Proper handling & storage" to see how to draw it up.

Buying one pen is definitely the way to make your money stretch the farthest. $25 per pen is a great deal, probably better than you can get online. You'll likely need to call around to pharmacies to find one that will break up a box of 5 pens (how they are usually sold) and sell you just one pen, but there's usually someone nearby who will.

someone posted a couple of days ago and said that pharmacies that deliver to nursing homes will often break up boxes of pens.
