Does anyone live in the Salt Lake County, UT area?

Hi,
I have to go out of town over labor day week and am worried about my kitty. I called vets who offer boarding in the area but they are either not willing to BG test before injections or will charge a ridiculous fee ($30) for every test.
If anyone lives in Salt Lake County and is willing, I will happily pay you whatever you think is fair to come by and test/feed/shoot my girl. I'd much rather leave her in the care of someone here who knows the importance of testing.
Thanks!

I don't either, but in the past, have had to leave my kitty under the care of a petsitter who didn't test. There are some things I can suggest as you get closer to when you need to leave. It isn't ideal, it would be safer to have testing done, but my Maverick did just fine while I was gone.

Another thought is perhaps a tech from your vet’s office would like to earn a little extra money.

Thank you for your answer! I'd love your suggestions if I end up not being able to find someone willing to test. Not even sure if Misty will want to cooperate with a stranger testing her, she was pretty difficult for even me to handle at the beginning.

You're welcome, sorry I just realized I sounded very mysterious! At a high level, as you get closer to when you need to leave, even with people who have petsitters testing, you'll likely want to have a reduced dose, a few days before you go, but also depends on how the current dose is working, so I'd suggest posting three or four days before you go to get some input on how much to reduce for a vacation dose. Sometimes a reduced dose also helps in case you aren't sure whether Misty will eat as she normally does while you are gone. I also had my pet sitter feed higher low carb food, I picked something around 6-9% vs his usual 2-4%. Do you have an automatic feeder? I already use the autofeeder when I am at work, so my cat was used to it, and that worked very well to have snacks available for both am and pm cycles when I was gone.

I called and asked about boarding or techs and they only answered my boarding questions, said nothing about techs. I wonder if there's a better way to reach them directly?
My vet/the others I've called in the area don't seem to see the point of testing BG so often. When I told one of the places I called that Misty needs to be tested before every shot, the receptionist seemed very condescending and told me testing so often is hurting my cat. Ugh.
Sorry for the rant, thank you for the idea!

Don’t apologize. They are idiots. We had a cat start today at 54 for the very first time. He would have had a symptomatic hypo of not watched most of the day.

Ha no worries! Just was hoping you could elaborate.
I'll definitely post about a vacation dose before I leave, thanks for the tip :)
Do you have a recommendation for the higher carb low carb food? Misty is currently eating tiki cat after dark, which is >1% I believe. I do have the petsafe 5, she gets 2 snacks a cycle while I'm working/asleep

That's so scary! My cat dropped to 84 on just over half the starting dose my vet prescribed. I don't want to imagine what would have happened if I'd shot the full dose he recommended. It's just hard that the person prescribing the meds is so unsupportive

Hopefully someone on that list will be willing to work with me!

Just make sure they're insured and bonded and that you have them come to the house and see how they get along with Misty (as well as getting a feel for them in general). There have been some pretty horrific stories with some petsitters (like giving the wrong dose, not showing up when they're supposed to, etc.) so if anything sets off your spidey senses, pay attention!

I think the vast majority of petsitters do a good job and are dependable but as with everything else, there's always some bad apples out there.

@Chris & China (GA) i just saw on one of the other Fb pages last (not ou

You will always get people like that. Just ignore them and move on, frustrating as it is!
It sadly shows how little they know about FD!
Looks like the first bit of your post got cut off somehow there Bron
I do, its just frustrating that the person prescribing her meds is so unsupportive. I'm honestly worried that if I want to change insulins or put a libre on her he won't do it. Maybe time to find a new vet

Ooh that's scary! I'll have to interview thoroughly.

Remember you pay the vet to work for you. If he is not doing his job, find someone who will. It’s a partnership looking after an FD kitty.
