Do you inject air in the Lantus vial or not?

I have read differing opinions here- some people it's okay, others say not to, it may affect it (lantus). Which is it?

This is from the sticky on the Lantus forum on proper handling of lantus-

Do not inject air into cartridges or pens. Cartridges and pens are designed to work on a negative pressure principle.

Carl posted info about the pens and cartridges. If you have the vial, you may need to inject air if you are drawing a large dose of insulin out. Just remember to inject air into air, and not into the insulin.

Yes, when using the vial, you eject air into the vial to equalize the pressure of what you will be drawing out.

So, move plunger up and down to spread the lubricant in the barrel, place plunger at your selected dose, put needle into vial and inject the air, firmly holding on to the plunger to get the air bubbles from forming, then tip vial upside down and now draw out the insulin. Remove syringe, squirt out any tiny excess into the sink or a tissue and you're good to go.
