He is 163 before eating. Do I give him his normal 2 unit shot. Confused. Should I take his bg again soon ?? Should I lower dose? ?help? #!

Can you stall for half and hour without feeding to see if Cody's BSL is rising or dropping?
It is hard to advise you when you do not have a spreadsheet for us to have a look at.
Do you know what his nadirs are? (the lowest point he drops to in a cycle.)
Are you able to test during the cycle if you shoot?
What is the lowest you have shot before?

I've just fed him. I was going to take it again soon. I don't have many nadirs due to work schedules. He actually has been pulling higher numbers in the 300s. But for the first time last night I pulled his food so he couldn't have any overnight.

I am in a different time zone so don't know when 7am is. We use +2 or +3 etc after the shot as we are all in different time zones.
If you are not going to be home to test, I don't think I would shoot the full amount.
You could give what we call a big chicken shot, ie a smaller dose. Maybe 1 unit? What do you feel comfortable with?
I would also leave plenty of food out for him to snack on while you are at work.
For the future, it would be very helpful if you could get some mid cycle tests and some tests in the evening as cats usually drop lower at night. Lantus is dosed on the nadir not the preshot.

163 is normally a safe number to shoot. But if it is much lower number than you normally shoot, than it would be wise to gradually get down to that number, testing as you go to see how he reacts to the insulin at a lower preshot.
What about starting a spreadsheet and documenting the numbers when you have time? That way you will be able to see at a glance how he is going and it makes it much easier for members to advise.

Ok maybe I'll shoot a lil less. He had half wet Fancy Feast and half well Ness core and I am well aware that wellness score is a little higher in carbs and am planning on making the transition to completely wet as soon as the summer starts and I am no longer teaching

Yes I think I would shoot a little less too. Just because you have never shot this low before and you will not be there to monitor him. Better to be safe than sorry:)
IF the Well Ness Core is dry it is sure to be higher in carbs. But you are wise to wait til you are able to monitor the transition to lower carbs as it will affect the numbers

Without a spreadsheet with test data, I'm not able to make any determination as to whether or not it's safe to shoot. It's entirely possible that some of your higher numbers are due to bounces off of low numbers. Will you be able to put a spreadsheet together any time soon?

Here's the link for instructions for creating a spreadsheet.
