My Simba was diagnosed on 4/25/11. Took him off of dry food on 6/13 BG dropped dramatically. No insulin since 6/29/11am

BS Levels last few days

6/29 - 85 a.m.
6/30 - 115 a.m. & 165 p.m.
7/1 - 132 a.m.
7/2 - 252 a.m. & 87 p.m. - I believe the 252 was becaue I fed him different wet food.
7/3 - 147 a.m. & 100 p.m.
7/4 - Would not let me touch his ears; therefore nothing

7/5 - 122 a.m.
7/6- 94 p.m.
7/9 - 99 p.m.
7/8 - 108 p.m.
7/9 - 80 p.m. "seems low"

Simba had 9 teeth removed on 7/5/11. I believe what brought on diabetes was his teeth issue. Simba has his 1st post-op appt on 7/18 and I will ask the vet this question, but I'm concerned that today his number was 80 after dinner and it's only 4pm. Will this go any lower overnight ?

If I'm reading this correctly he had had no insulin since June 29th, correct?

If that is the case you have nothing to worry about, he's not going have a hypoglycemic episode, in fact what you have are wonderful normal numbers. Some of my non diabetic cats have been in the low 40s to 60s, mine usually test around 60-80.

Is the date correct, no insulin since end of June?

Yes, June 29th in the morning was his last dosage of 2 units of Prozinc...Actually....I'm wrong. He got one unit on 7/2 because his level that morning was 252, but keep in my I think that number was that way becaue I fed him a different wet food NOT Classic Fancy Feast. I fed him regular Welness wet. My vet said if it went over 200 to give him one unit.

6/29 a.m. two units and next dosage on 7/2 one unit in the a.m. (level 252) .. NO insulin at all since evening of 7/2.

I'm with Tucker's mom those are lovely normal numbers if he hasn't had insulin for a few days. Maxwell is diet controlled and those look about like his numbers, He runs between 50s-70s depending on when I spot check him.

You did great. Even that dose on 7/2 doesn't have any affect on what he's at now. You should give your kitty a big hug and be glad the dental did the trick.

Thank you so much Tucker's mom & MommaOfMuse. I cry with happiness because he seems so much better. I was a mess when I first joined this web site when he was diagnosed on 4/25/11.

MommaOfMuse....I'm not sure if you remember me when I first came here. I was a total mess. I wasn't crazy about doing hometesting or taking him off dry food. I thank god for this site. Everyone here is amazing and have so much knowledge on Feline Diabetes. I'm also thrilled that I took Simba for a 2nd opinion on 6/13/11. The 2nd opinion vet said NO DRY FOOD and you have to do hometesting.....same thing everyone here was telling me.

Do you think I shoud still prick his ears...I'm doing it only once a day now.

I still check Maxwell about twice a month and he has been off insulin for 8 months. :-D Well actually since Musette arrived Maxwell has been getting tested at least twice a day...because he DEMANDS it...lol. He figures if Musette gets tested and gets a treat HE should be tested and get a treat. So now I test Musette and then Maxwell climbs in my lap to be tested...I haven't told him yet that sometimes Mommie only pricks his ear and gives the treat and we don't actually do the whole meter thingy....shhhhhh.

They are lovely numbers. Maisey started there and gradually drifted downward, she is mostly in the 50's-70's now. Her litter mate Vinney has always been in the 40's so figure her 50's are normal. She looks so wonderful now - she's gained back all she lost and is so smooth and shiny.

Winnie your Simba is on her beautiful Honeymoon and ready to visit the Falls.
Please never ever forget that she remains a diabetic.
A few servings, sometimes the casual high carb snack could throw her right back into the dance.
My tom was otj for 2.5 years and I got careless. Started by giving him just 3 or4 hard kibbles as a treat. Became a daily thing...but never more than 3 or 4 kibbles. Thought he was a normal cat given the amount of time otj.
Well altho we are coming close again to giving up insulin, we have been back on it for 1.5 years again.
Never get casual that Simba is a diabetic.
