Do kitties get tired/bored with same food?

Can a cat merely become tired of one food and stop eating it without being "sick?" Boomer had been eating the same food day after day for probably more than 2 years before he decided he did not like it any more. I switched him to another food a few weeks ago and it has been smooth sailing ever since. He doesn't have any known health issues after a full examination including blood work this past summer. Has anyone had an experience with this where kitty merely wants a change?

Well the simple answer is yes, I believe cats can get bored with their food.

However, due to IBD issues I have with Maui, I limited their food to poultry flavors only - mainly turkey & giblets. For the past year, nobody will touch it and the only flavor they now will eat is beef. I have cans of turkey, chicken, chicken & liver and they will let it sit and go hungry rather than eat it. As soon as I put out beef - they eat.

Now what makes this even weirder, I also feed her raw food and that is chicken and yes, she eats it. But has decided she doesn't like turkey anymore.

So, she'll eat raw chicken, but not canned chicken and will eat canned beef....

go figure....guess that's why she's a cat and I'm just the servant, catering to her wishes..... :?

I believe they get tired of the same food too. Once there was a time when Tip completely boycotted beef for nearly 2 weeks. Then she even went so far as to want nothing to do with Friskies at all! I remember desperately buying something like 5 different brands of cat food.

What Cindy said reminded me of something that happened about this time last year I think...
Cindy, was that when you noticed the refusal to eat Friskees? There were a number of cats who stopped wanting Friskees Pates last year all around the same time. I ended up calling Purina to ask them if anything had changed. They had just revamped all their labels on Friskees and Fancy Feast too. I was assured that the only thing that had been changed was a substitution of some additive (all I can remember is that "magnesium" was involved). The big concern here was that they'd changed something that would add carbs.

Judy, the food he's suddenly decided that he doesn't like anymore... do you know if the formula has been modified recently?

The only time I ever saw Bob and Mullet refuse to eat canned food was right after diagnosis of diabetes with Bob. The vet sent me home with a case of Hill's M/D, and they ate it for two or three days, then refused to eat it anymore. I returned it for a refund, not really realizing it was bad food for a diabetic, but because they wouldn't eat, and I wasn't going to cave in and give them any dry food. Then I found Binky's lists and switched to FF classics and Friskees Pates, glad that Bob already apparently knew that Hill's M/D wasn't good for him :-D

Ah, no. Unfortunately a year ago the cats were on dry food because I didn't know any better. ): That was before Tip was diabetic.

Ah yes, I remember those days, when the dry food was so great because it was no mess, no fuss, and being so happy when I walked into the house after work, relieved that the boys had eaten every morsel of the dry food before the ant invasion could take place due to a few bits left in the bowl.
