Help.

This is our second day on Lantus. I updated his SS.

Today I did an AM PS and it was 7.0. I didnt shot, I fed and waited an hour. Then I retook it. IT is 5.4. I didnt shoot.

What should I do? Do I shoot the 1 IU anyway bc there is a shed to fil? OR leave it alone and see if his pancreas is kicking in on its own???

When you are able to give a shot, please consider lowering the dose to .5U. Getting such a low preshot number so early after beginning insulin is a very good sign that he may not need much insulin and maybe not for very long.

Isn't it awesome that you are home-testing?1?!

I agree with everyone. I personally did not like shooting low numbers so 120 was my cutoff. Lantus does build a shed, but every cat is different. Maybe your kitty is very sensitive to it for some reason? Some do like to shoot very low numbers on Lantus. I wouldn't until you know exactly how the cat will react to it. Find your own comfort level.

I agree with skipping it and gathering more data with BG checks through out the day today. See what the next pre-shot number is.

Thank you everyone :)

His numbers dipped back down to 5. So absolutely no shots todsy. I have to phone in tomorrow at 8:30 for advice from the vet.

Just to give you a heads up. At the next shot time the BG probably will be much higher than normal. That is expected. Within a day or so, you should see it return to the normal preshot BG readings.
