DM or M/D?

My kitty Leroy is only 5 years old but was diagnosed with diabetes in January. We are doing Prozinc insulin and his numbers have been great but I did notice that I changed his food from Purina DM to Hill's M/D within the last month due to cost savings and his glucose has gone a little higher so now I have had to increase his insulin. I was under the impression it should be similar because the M/D is marketed to help regulate glucose too.

Has anyone seen a difference between the two? Should I go back to the Purina DM? Or could it be higher just because he's wanting to eat everything in sight now and I should just try the M/D for a little bit longer?

Just getting opinions from other cat moms and dads!

It's really not necessary to buy those expensive "prescription" foods at all!! Most of us feed plain old Fancy Feast Classics or Friskies pates.

They are better ingredients, low carb and a lot cheaper!

Are these the dry foods or wet? The dry foods have too many carbs. I used to use a little of the Hill's M/D to steer Mia's glucose up if she started going too low when on ProZinc. After seeing the direct impact it had on her glucose, there is no way I would feed it to a cat as a regular food.

If you are referring to the wet foods, Hill's M/D is 13% carbs while Purina DM is only 6%. So the DM is much better; however, as Chris said, there is no need to use either of these foods. I feed my girls Weruva Chicken Frick A Zee which has much healthier ingredients and is only 2% carbs. You could use the cat food database (link in my signature) to find appropriate foods to try.
