Got the Lantus ordered from Mark's Marine on Fri 12/13 and called them on Monday to see if it had shipped (figured they would wait until Monday and not ship over a weekend) and they said it was being shipped on Tues 12/17 and I would receive a tracking # etc. I did and it said it would arrive on Mon 12/23 so I planned on being home all that day to sign for it. On Dec 19, tracking said release to USA post office with delivery still as Mon 12/23. On Sat Dec 21, it was delivered but I wasn't there to sign and unfortunately, I did not check the tracking site to check on Sat morning, my error, too but also didn't get an email update on the delivery date. I can pick it up at the post office on Mon morning 12/23 and hope that it will be ok. I had the option of going online and having them redeliver it, but thought that might take more time.
I was a bit concerned til I reread the Insulin Care Sticky. This group is such a valuable resource!
So, I am a bit anxious about starting it on Christmas Eve and am thinking I will wait until 12/26. I did get the Harbor Freight digital calipers, a A4LED TikTeck Light Box and a AIXPI 30X Lighted Magnifying Glass and am going to practice on filling some used syringes and calibrating the dose of Lantus. His vet said to start at 1-2u and group said if I want to be conservative, start at 1.25u but that I could do 1.5 as he is currently on 1.6u of Vetsulin. I think I will do the SLGS protocol and start at 1.25u.
Currently, I am using the UltiCare VetRx U-100 3/10cc x 31g with half unit markings and didn't know if there was a member that had calibrated dosing with those syringes, but have read and reread and watched the videos on using a caliper etc, and hope my unimpressive math skills are up to this!
I'm going to post this next question on the general forum, but I use a 26g lancet and Disco's paw pads and usually put neosporin w'pain (no zinc) on to help but twice I have used plain vaseline in a new tube (last night and this morning as the neosporin tube rolled under the bed as I was about to test and he was already in my lap with the 'tourniquet' on), and his PSPM was 408 (usually in the 300's) and this morning, a 525 with the vaseline. Right away I retested him on a different pad, same foot but with neosporin) and got a 392. Do tests vary that much or could it be the vaseline?
