Dimitri is feeling too good (skink question)

That silly boy of mine went outside this morning and came back with a skink in his mouth. He has NEVER chased, much less caught, a lizard before. :shock:

We had a neighbor back in Brunswick who swore that skinks were bad for cats and that two of her cats had eaten them and it caused their heads to permanently tilt to one side.

I managed to get Dimitri to drop the lizard before he ate it and then I caught it and took it further out in the yard.

I googled "skinks bad for cats", but most of the sites say there is no scientific proof that skinks cause any harm to cats.

Does anyone have actual experience of skinks harming their cat(s)?

I remember many many years ago while I was visiting a friend in Florida, her cat caught a skink and brought it to the porch. My friend grabbed it away, exclaiming that skinks are poisonous to cats. The kitty was fine. So basically all I can tell you is that you're not the only one to have heard this, but I don't know if it's true.

i don't know, but i think the concern would be greatest if he actually ate the lizard. I don't think we have them around here. You could phone your vet.

p.s. This is the first I've heard of "skinks"!! I thought it was a typo for skunk!

Thanks. Dimitri is fine. He didn't get to eat the skink because we caught him while he was still playing with his "toy."

However, just now when I went to take the trash out, the stupid skink ran back into our screened-in back porch and I can't find him! I'm leaving the
screen door open all night and not letting ANY kitties out of the house for now. I think tomorrow morning I will fire up my leaf blower and clean off the porch thoroughly.
