How much do you all feed your cat per day? My Remy is about 15 pounds and has switched to wet food twice a day (3 ounce cans). They are He is currently in remission and doing really well. However, I feel like he's always hungry. He is much more active now, so I'm sure he's burning more calories. I just don't know how much he should be eating each day. Thanks!

Here's a body condition chart to help you assess Remy's weight. (Is that a current photo of Remy in your avatar?) My cat is 11 lbs (her skeletal frame is large, btw) - she maintains her weight at about 7 oz. FF Classics pate (turkey w/giblet, 4% carbs) per day. Only moderately active: She's mainly a couch-potato type; plays vigorously only about 10 min./day.

Do you spot-check Remy's BG now that he's in remission, btw? (Please take a look the Secondary Monitoring Tools in BJ's signature @BJM ) It is a good idea to keep an eye on how much water Remy drinks, even while in remission; I measure the water in Bat-Bat's dish every 24 hours now. (Wish I'd done that while she was still in remission; would have alerted me early when she was losing remission.)

Thank you for the chart! That is a slightly older pic. He has lost about a pound and a half since changing his food. He is a larger cat though frame wise. Yes I still check him twice a week as the vet recommended. He has been doing really well thankfully :) Seems like a diet change was his biggest need.

I think it really varies from cat to cat. I believe you start around 15-20 calories per pound and adjust from there.
Our cats are all over the board. Mittens is 11lbs, eats 3 3oz cans+some dry food a day (250-300cals) and is lean, lanky and drops a bit of weight during the summer months. Cecil eats 2 2oz cans+ (150-200cals) and has slimmed down to a perfect weight for him around 13lbs. We keep reducing the amount and are now feeding ChrisFarley (19lbs) and Sly (13.5lbs) around 1.3-1.5 3oz cans (150-200 depending on how much they steal) and have a hard time getting any weight to come off of their chubby little selves. The rest are snackers and who knows how much they eat. Taz puts away at least 200 calories most days lately and doesn't add weight to her 8.5lb 18yr old frame. Doesn't poop much either. Not sure where she's packin' it to.

Wet food can really vary in calories too. More fat means more calories per ounce.

Wow, that's great - good work!!!:)

We used the chart on kittislim.com and it seemed to be about right. Our vet confirmed it had the right calorie counts. There are some other helpful tips on the site too.

@George-1966
Does the Kittislim website include calories from carbohydrate? With a diabetic cat in remission, that is a key factor in selecting a food.
