Diet controlled?

Hi,

We gave Kitty 2.5 mg pills a day for 15 days. Last Monday, I saw her BG was 129 in the morning before I gave her the pill, so I decided not to give her. After 2 hours of food intake, in the afternoon, her BG was 81, and 4 hours later it was 76. She ended the day with 116 and I didn't give her any pills that day.

Yesterday, she was 134 in the morning at 06:45, 114 at 13:35, 100 at 18:45 and 121 at 22:30. I didn't give her any pills.

Today, she was 91 at 09:30, 102 at 13:30 and 121 at 18:30 when she was hungry.

She took her last pill last Sunday morning, and she hasn't until then. I didn't think she has needed it since then. I don't think it is decreasing because of the pills, but I have been feeding her with a zero-carb wet food I could finally find about 10 days ago. She was around 250s then, and in 10 days she is down to 100s.

Are these numbers good, or normal? I don't want to get excited to avoid disappointment, but can we say she seems to be diet controlled? She was in 500s when I first realized her diabetic symptoms, and only by taking care of her food, she had come down to 350s (but I didn't know much about feline diabetes then, and she was down to 350s by diabetic dry food). In a month, she was in 250s. After I changed her to zero-carb wet, these are the results.

100-121, are these numbers good without insulin or medication, or should we aim a lower range?

I realize her BG is the highest in the morning when she is really hungry. After 2 hours she eats, it goes down. Also, she does not finish all the food at a time when I give her, but she comes and goes and eats it, so I cannot really know how much she is hungry or how many hours passed after she eats.

The vet I found did not want to start insulin when I told her she was down from 500 to 350s by herself, so he wanted to give a very small amount of pill a day a try. After two weeks and switch to wet food, we don't seem to need it either. I don't give her anything to avoid a hypo incident.

Thanks in advance

It is looking encouraging! We say a cat is in remission when they range from 40-120, spending the majority of the time in double digits, off insulin, for 2 weeks. I would continue to feed the very low carb food and monitor her numbers.

Great numbers! I stopped shooting once Bear was under 200 and he sometimes has a flare up every year or so but has been pretty healthy doing the diet of canned wheat gluten-free varieties of FF.

It's been 10 more days and she is mostly around 90s :) I think I have a diet controlled Kitty :) Heyoooo!!!!

Yes I know. I will be alert all the time. The only problem we are having now is that she has local hair loss on the right side of her body. She chews her skin while licking and this results in hair loss I think. I thpugh this might be because of the fat burning pill we used for about a month (because it was the beginning of fatty liver and she had high trigliserid and cholesterol levels). I'm not giving it for 3 days. Or, she might be allergic to the wet food Im feeding her because it's all fish ingrediants and I read today that seafood is a very common cause of allergy. I will stop feeding her with seafood and see what happens. I also give her extra vitamin C, and Omega 3 and 6. In case chewing is because of dry skin caused by diabetes, I put a tiny bit of olive oil into her food this evening (something I read).

I hope we will solve this problem, too. I believe it is nothing when compared to diabetes. She is my strong baby, she will get over it.

Thanks for all your help as well. It's been a relief to have you and this forum.
