Hello .. NEED ADVICE, please. I just discovered your website/forum tonight. I am 3 weeks into a new diagnosis with my 14 year old female kitty. No problems with administering doses. Doing really well up to tonight. .. when I got distracted and VIGOROUSLY SHOOK my Lantus bottle!! It then had a skim of air bubbles on top. I went ahead and gave a dose (1 unit) to my cat with her meal, as usual, hoping it would still be effective. I was very clearly instructed to NOT ever shake an insulin bottle, and don’t know whether it will still have any efficacy for her morning dose tomorrow? Other than potentially being ineffective, is there any other harm to having used it for her dose tonight?
Her morning dose tomorrow will be needed before the pharmacy is open. If I need a new bottle, I won’t be able to get a new bottle until at least 2-3 hours after her dosing time (she is on 1 unit every 12 hours).
Is there any point in using the shaken bottle in the morning, or will it now be ineffective? If ineffective and I need to go to the pharmacy, what do I do about the several hours delay between the time her dose should be given and the time I could get the necessary insulin to give to her?
Thank you so much for any advice.
