Diarrhea

So, Newman has diarrhea tonight. He still ate dinner, although typically he will eat his whole can, tonight he ate half at first but has gone back to nibble a few times. I ordered the probiotic that someone else suggested on another post but am interested in hearing how you guys add fiber to the diet? He won’t eat pumpkin (Puddy loves it but Newman is not interested at all). I plan on mixing 1/4 capsule probiotic into his food in the morning (thank you Amazon for overnight delivery), and want to add fiber. What is best to use? My vet suggested a senior cat food bc they tend to be higher in fiber, but I am wanting to avoid switching his diet since the FF seems to holding out ok (until now with this bout of diarrhea). Any advice much appreciated! We had the small victory of our first ear stick today and now I am brought back down from that high due to digestive issues…..

Some cats will prefer squash baby food as an alternative to pumpkin. The baby food also has the advantage of being in a smaller container.

Personally, I've always found a probiotic (specifically, S. boulardii) great for getting diarrhea under control. Other members will add a probiotic to their cat's diet on a routine basis -- not necessarily S. boulardii but a more general probiotic. There are a few options for adding fiber such as psyllium husk but I've never used it. Verbac has a psyllium supplement, Vetasyl, that's in capsule form.
