Diarrhea?

Hello Bocephus was started on 3.6ml of liquid doxycycline once daily in his evening feeding and he also started insulin the same night (9/25). Prior to both he had normal stools but starting that night he had soft serve stool and by last night it is completely liquid diarrhea. He only does it once no more than twice per day at the same time he use to have normal stools so it's not all day or constant.
Could this be more the doxycycline than the insulin? Should I be overly concerned?

What is he on doxy for? Minnie was on it for her pneumonia but it never affected her stool. Can you call your vet and ask for something for the diarrhea like metronidazole? A lot of us feed our cats S Boulardii probiotics to keep their stool in check, but it does take a week or 2 to start working and it sounds like you need to address this now.

He has plasma cell pododermatitis aka pillow paw that abscessed prior to me finding him. I will contact the vet tomorrow especially if it's still pure liquid. Thank you for the probiotic information.. that was going to be one of my next questions.

Metronidazole is only helpful if there is an anerobic bacteria that's causing the diarrhea. If it's antibiotic related, a probiotic would be a better choice. I'm a big fan of S. boularrdi. Either ReNew brand or Jarrow's + MOS are both reliable brands. Both are available on Amazon.

I will order the probiotic and give it a try. For sure as much as his little system has been through lately I'd rather try it than add another medication. I'll touch base with his vet and let her know just to be safe because he's going to be on the doxy 30 days possibly longer depending on the effects it has on his paws.

Just make sure to not give it close to the time you give the antibiotics as the antibiotics kill everything. Wait at least 3 hours after you give the antibiotics

I started Minnie on 1/4 capsule once a day and went up to twice a day. I use the Jarrows brand from Amazon
