Bubba has had 3 episodes of diarrhea today. Not huge amounts but none the less, diarrhea. I gave me a tsp. of pumpkin around 11:30 Am, hopefully it helps. Will it be safe to shoot him at his PM time. I know not to with vomiting but not sure about diarrhea. And I was planning to increase his insulin amount tonight as he has been flat but, thinking this wouldn't be the time to do that, correct? Thx.

I think you're right about an increase. Diarrhea can lower levels, but you'll probably see that at pmps, if that is what happens. If he is lower, then maybe no increase tonight.

Have you tried FortiFlora? What does the vet say? It certainly can be the food change. You might cut back to one flavor, feed that awhile and see if the diarrhea improves. Then add another flavor. My cats don't do well with beef so I avoid those.

I only give Bubba Fancy Feast Kitten Turkey. And he gets a small amount of Young Again dry each day. Maybe he got a bad mouse......he still wanted to go outside today and did catch a mouse, which I got away from him, didn't think he needed that. I haven't called the vet yet. I believe Forti flora is a probiotic? I have some NaturVet Digestive Enzymes Plus Probiotics and wondering if that would be safe to give to him.

Yes, Forti Flora is a probitiotic. Very good for diarrhea. I am not familiar with NaturVet either.

I also add Forti Flora to my cats' food when they aren't eating well. Bonnie, my IBD civie cat, is having a bout with diarrhea now and I am hoping she'll tolerate the Forti Flora. Sometimes she does, sometimes she doesn't. CJ and my other civie, Charlie, have no problems with Forti Flora.

If diarrhea is constant, be sure to get extra fluids down to prevent dehydration. I give my cats unflavored pedialyte when they are vomiting or have diarrhea.

Thanks Cat Ma and Sue and Oliver, I just ordered some, none of the Pet stores in my area carry it.

My Lulu had diarrhea for several weeks after her dx and transitioning over from dry to 100% wet food diet. I tried pumpkin, Rx metronidazole, and now I give her FortiFlora every day. All 3 of my fur babies LOVE FortiFlora. I'll still get a whiff of foul odours from the LB from time to time, which tells me she still has the odd bout, but it's not constant like it was.

Keep in mind that the inflammation which destroys the insulin-producing islet cells may also destroy some of the enzyme producing cells, causing loose, grayish, large feces. If you see that, discuss testing for exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI).

Bubba had loose"soft serve" for 2 days after I started the Young Again. The owner of the company told me they would have that and they did. That was June 16th and this is his first bout since. It's funny, my Lulu, doggie, has constipation right now. Jeeze.....my husband calls me the poop police.
