So moomoo has always had tummy trouble and now with the diabetes it has been exacerbated. I had usually, before diabetic life, was always able to sneak metronidazole in his treats but now with him on it all the time he knows my little tricks and refuses to take it and now with his belly getting worse, he’s being picky with his food. So today, I got an RX for compounded metronidazole in tuna flavor. They said there is no taste and or bitterness so I mixed it with some tuna juice and he snubbed it. We tried injecting in into his mouth and he freaked and it just went everywhere but in his mouth. So now he’s weary of me by his neck and I don’t want that especially with me having to give him shots. I also tried some of his favorite food and he knew it was in there. I don’t want to keep wasting his medicine. Are there any tricks that people do that have had the same problem as me. Other than his stomach he does very well. I don’t want to lose him to something as simple as him not taking medicine. If I don’t get his belly better soon it’s going to go downhill quick. Any suggestions welcome!!

What I do with Minnie is wrap it in a super thin lawyer of pill pocket to “hide” the smell. She decided not to eat the pill pockets anymore so I got some cheese wheez and I make a ball around it and a few ones without anything and she’s been eating her one pill med that way successfully now. I do have a ton of other liquid meds I have to give her and I stick the syringe on the side of her mouth. I have to hold her head but the only trick that makes it easier is to do small amounts and do it slowly. If you try to empty the entire content to the syringe fast it causes them to gag and freak out.
 
I also tried a few different syringes to find the one that has a smooth plunger and it’s easier for me to slowly push the liquid in. The ones that get stuck end up causing you to shoot too much liquid too fast and again, the result is gag and freak out
 
I suppose it may not work since you said he snubbed the tuna juice, but I was squirting antibiotics into my kitten's mouth recently and she was so mad at me about it. I ended up getting some baked chicken and squirting the meds on top just too see what she'd do and she gobbled them up! I'd definitely try for a high-value treat that you could hide it in if it's truly tasteless. Wishing you best of luck with it!
 
Have you looked into s. boullardi? Many people here have used it to help diarrhea. Article here.

I don't think even compounding disguises the horrid taste of metronidazole. I've given it both compounded (cat ran from me if she saw me coming) or in pill pockets. Your other option may be to buy some gel caps (size #4 or #3) and stuff the pill in that.
