Soo... I tested Zuko before his wet food this morning... 68 the first time... did the other ear to confirm with better sample 84... no insulin has been given since 9 am yesterday morning... still happy and eating well... had given a handful of dry over night. So glad I got this monitor... concerned he may not be diabetic and first blood work at vet was just from stress and pancreatitis... diet change too... when should I test again? Thank yall.

Let's see what others say, but I think I would call this OTJ Trial Day 1. Test again at when he would get next shot.

Glad you got the monitor also. Shudder to think what might have happened if you gave insulin.

I just read your other thread and am wondering what BG numbers your vet saw to diagnose Zuko, because he seems well within normal range in both of your threads...

Fantastic job learning to test so quickly. You're doing great!

Winnie usually shoots up at least 100 points after eating. To me, it sounds like Zuko's pancreas is doing some good work.

Thank you. Yes he seems to be doing good. I tried to call vet to let them know I'm not giving insulin. They are closed today. He was presented at vet with BG 686. Hadn't been tested after receiving fluids again until I got glucometer and tested him myself. It does look in normal range now... I'm glad I haven't been giving insulin...

Wow, that's so high! Was he on steroids? Poor guy. Seriously, kudos to you for picking up testing so quickly. You likely saved his life by doing so.

Maybe the vet didn't wash their hands very well or their meter was calibrated properly. That's awful high for for a one time test.

Thank you. I'm currently a stay at home mom but was a vet tech before I moved to the country and had our son. So I'm familiar with taking care of diabetic animals and we tested and did curves and tried to get correct dosage... so this vet made me nervous... the blood that scored a 686 glucose was on a full panel blood work... wasn't taken with a glucometer. He had been given a steroid shot a couple months prior to this because they thought they were dealing with Inflammatory Bowel Disease... but hasn't recieved any steroids since. I don't know... it was very high... all this is just crazy...

Well steroids definitely can cause high glucose. I don't know long a shot of it would last in their system. But I guess it has worked itself out now.

Yeah... I don't know... maybe the kitten dry food he ate threw him over the edge... kitten is going to go live with my sister. With his diet change and everything it's best I just focus on him. She has another siamese and said she wanted him before this. He's really not end to playing so much... I would think the shot would be out of his system by now but who knows... it was supposed to be long lasting for a month or so...
