Hello everyone,
I'm looking to hear some inspiring stories of kitties coming out of diabetic neuropathy. My cat has a bad case and it breaks my heart every time he makes his walk to and from the litter box. Especially when his front paws bend under. It looks very painful and I worry I'm not being a good cat mama. Is there anything we can give for the pain they experience? (He's on daily vit B12)

Also I'd love to hear happy ending stories. If you have a kitty that had neuropathy please share and let me know how bad was it. And how soon after the kitty was regulated did s/he started to get better. Please share your journey with me as I feel kinda helpless and hopeless

    Hi Karolina
  • Tyler was walking just like a rabbit on his back feet
  • He would have to stop every couple of steps to rest.
  • In the litter box he would get all wet litter on his butt because he had to sit
  • Are you giving Methyl B-12
  • After about a month and a half he was back to normal , started running and jumping again
  • I did see an improvement though every couple of weeks
  • One you get Nestles BG regulated it should get better
  • You can start giving it now , it's tasteless , open the capsule and just mix it in with the wet food and add water
  • Onec a day
I just looked back on some of your previous posts and see you are already giving it
Just give it some time
I don't know if anyone has given anything for pain though
Looking back at your previous posts it looks like you only started it on Feb 24th

Hi and welcome. I have only been here a few months but I have read quite a few stories where cats with neuropathy improved greatly after being on insulin for a while and getting better regulated.

As Diane has mentioned there is also treatment which tends to help greatly!

What insulin is your kitty on, how much and how long have you been giving insulin?

Hi Diane

Yes we started with methyl B12 on Feb 24 and he gets 1 pill (5000mcg) with his breakfast and another pill with his dinner.

I have heard in the past that he needs to be regulated first before I see improvements but it's just so discouraging. It also breaks my heart when I see him this way.
Hopefully we can find the correct dose soon, regulate him and he improves after that. Cross your paws for him

Just hang in there Karolina you will find the correct dose , , believe it or not it took me 2 years and 4 months to get Tyler into remission. He's been in remission since 1-24-21 knock on wood.
I need to up his doses many times
I know it breaks your heart , it broke mine too
Hang in there :bighug::bighug::bighug::cat:
Nestle is such a cutie, give him kisses for me

Hi Karolina and Nestle,
Don’t lose heart. My Sheba had neuropathy badly after she fell out of remission. She would slip and slide all over the wooden floors with her legs going out sideways. She had to sit down every few steps before she could move on and found it hard to squat in the LB. She couldn’t walk up the stairs or jump up on the chairs or beds. The two most important things you need to do are try and get the BGs back to normal numbers and to give the methyl B12. I gave Zobaline once a day. I can’t remember exactly how long it took for her to improve…..probably 6 months or more….. but she did and she eventually improved to the point where she could jump up on chairs and beds, run and not slip and slide…..in other words…back to normal. She also gained all the muscle mass she lost as well.
So you will get there. It’s hard to watch but his SS is looking better than it was and the more blue and green BGs you can get, the sooner you will see improvements but it is slow.

Hi Karolina. I answered on your FD Facebook post. I have adopted two diabetic cats with bad to severe neuropath. It will take some time for the neuropathy to show signs of improvement. Keep doing what you are doing. I think you may be closer to finding his optimal dose. That and the methyl B12 will help. It is possible that all of the neuropathy symptoms may not disappear, but you should see significant improvement.

Thank you Diane for all those words of encouragement. I really appreciate it.

I'm super happy for you and Tyler and am glad he's doing so well.

I'm passing on your kisses as we speak. Please do the same for Tyler :cat::kiss:

Hi Lisa and thank you. Yes I saw your post. Thanks for the info and the faith. Hopefully you're right and we're close to the right dose. Cross your paws for us :cat:

Hi Karolina, I know how you feel. Our 11 year old Freddie was diagnosed in February and has the same problem with his legs. It is heartbreaking to see him this way. We have had to keep increasing his insulin dose but BG still high. But yesterday I read a post on here about injection technique saying about leaving the needle in for a few seconds to make sure all the insulin goes in. I started doing this from last night and the readings have come way down to the point where I am worrying they might get too low now. Seems incredible that such a small thing should have so much effect.
I started the Methyl B12 earlier this week but no change yet, just hoping and praying that we some improvement soon.
