I need some info about it for a friend's cat who is suffering. I know I have seen Methyl B12 as one of the things to give. Is it over the counter ? How do you administer it to the cat and how much, think I remember seeing 300-500 mg. And is there something else?

I give Zobaline. I buy on line from Life Link. I give it once a day. Smokey is not bad. I started it preventively. Crushes really easy and mix with his PM food.

Let your friend know it takes time o see improvement.

Hi Bobbie, sorry to hijack this thread sort of, but I wanted to ask you how Bubba is doing. When I saw you in Community, I remembered your posts about him from last week.

My cat also has this. his vet has said NOTHING about giving him anything for it. I am switching vets, she does NOT support any testing. She has him on 4 units right now, but I only give him 1 unit ( see his spreadsheet) its a long story, please see my other post in the prozinc forum.

Hey there ~ thanks for asking. The ketones resolved thank goodness. This morning was a trace amount, so I am really keeping my eye on it. We made the switch to Lantus on Dec. 1 to see if we can get him unstuck. He wants to be in the yellows and when I went up in dose with ProZinc, so did his numbers. I am so hoping we can get him at least regulated because he has lost a lot of weight. I have increased his calories some to help him.

He looks great post surgery and has adapted well to one eye; he still hunts and wants to be outside all the time (probably to find another meal) Fingers and Paws crossed for some better results and some weight gain.

Good call to switch vets unless you think you can "educate" her in FD. If not, move on. I did, and I will move again if I think a vet doesn't have Bubba's best interest and is knowledgeable enough with FD. I like my new one but she doesn't support TR with Lantus and wanted me to start at 1 unit (big mistake ) so I am being guided by the Lantus peeps.

@Merlin , I remember you saying once that you still give it to Merlin the B-12 even though he doesn't have the neuropathy anymore. Bubba doesn't have any signs yet but, I was wondering if it would be safe to give him some as a preventive as you are doing with Merlin?

Hey @Bobbie And Bubba - yes I give Merlin B-Right and Methyl B12 periodically (not daily). I give it to him mostly because of his CKD condition. He does not show any diabetic neuropathy symptons anymore other than once in a while, he will "twitch" and when I give the B-Right and Methyl B12 to him, it seems to subside.

I just ordered the Methyl B 12, I didn't know anything about the B -Right. What is it and do I need to give it also as a preventive or would the Methyl B12 do it? You mentioned "twitch", what do you mean?

I was wondering about what you mean by twitch too??both my cats have twitches in their arms or like a spasms out of the blue.was wondering why they are doing this?

@Cat girl Gee don't quote me but I think I read somewhere on Tanya CKD website that may be a sympton to Hypertension. That reference can be found mid-page here: http://www.felinecrf.org/key_issues.htm I mentioned it to my vet and she seemed interested but didn't give me any clue what it may be. I can rub Merlin's ear and sometimes he will twitch or jerk. Also when he is sitting or standing drinking or eating, his leg may twitch. He has been doing it for a couple of years, so I am not too concern with that. I have also seen my other cats do it once in a while too.

Or it could be simple myoclonus.
Hope it is just something simple.my civie has been doing it for years but miss kitty started doing it like a year or so ago out of the blue so was starting to wonder if it is a sign of something.it does look like an involuntary spasm.she hits herself in the nose with her hand sometime etc.i never see them do it on their hind legs just in their arms.well front legs.lol

Hmm... In addition to the suggestions above, you might consider getting her potassium levels checked along with other electrolytes.
