Diabetic neuropathy and Methylcobalamin (B12)

Hi,

My 17 year old diabetic cat is thought to have neuropathy and after reading Jasper's story I contacted my vet to get some methylcobalamin (a form of B12), but they said that it is not recommended for use in cats, and they can't even order it in. They ordered something with regular B12 in it (cyanocobalamin), and other good vitamins and said that is what veterinary nutritionists are recommending. She said it converts to Methylcobalamin in the body. Just wondering if anyone has any info on this as I really want to do the best for her.

You can buy Methyl B12 online or at a local health food store. Even some pharmacies carry it. I'm sure those vitamins are fine, but only Methyl B12 is effective for neuropathy (please see my response to your previous post). We've been using it here (FDMB) for a decade with great success - my own vet is a convert.
 
FYI, I had great success with Methyl B-12. After about six weeks of regulated BG levels and Methyl B-12, Snickers was back to her old self, jumping all over the place.
