My 15 year old cat has lost a half pound in recent months. There have been stressors of another cat being sick and then euthanised, moving to a new location, and then we were gone for 2.5 weeks. During this time a woman came in three times a day to feed him. His T4 was 2, at the top of the range here in Costa Rica. His glucose after a 12 hour fast was 184. He was fed and tested an hour later. His BG was 210. Two hours later it was 181. How much of the rise in his BG could be stress induced?
The vet recommended insulin; there is no insulin here for animals so they modify Humulin 70/30 amount. There is only one cat food here for diabetics and it is dry. We are thinking of skipping the insulin and trying a raw food diet. Thoughts?

Welcome. What commercial canned cat food are available? Likely yo can find a low-carb one and it would be easier and less expensive that raw although raw is goo. My cats will not eat raw.
Regarding insulin, all N insulin vice a 70/30 mixture of N and R would be better. Humulin is Eli Lilly's trade name for a family of Recombinant DNA origin human insulins. They include N (sometimes called NPH), and R (very fast actions) and mixture of the two. Only N/NPH is OK, but not that good, for cats.

Is not the the human insulins Lantus or Levemir available? Those would be better than N. But yo can wiar and see with a diet change to a low-card wet food does for BG
