? diabetic cat not eating

We have a 10 year old spayed female cat who was diagnosed with diabetes last summer. we regulated her glucose levels with insulin for several months, but her blood sugar levels settled down and we had several close calls with hypoglycemia/insulin shock, so we took her off the insulin and have just been using diet changes to keep her sugars in a healthy range.

In the 5 months that we have been treating her, she has lost quite a bit of weight (she needed to lose some - she was overweight) and now is getting kind of thin. On top of that, she has recently lost interest in food and we cannot get her to eat. Up until a few days ago, she loved to eat, and would even try to climb in our plates when we were eating, but now won't eat anything.

This happened about 2 months ago, as well, with some vomiting when she tried to eat. We changed foods and her appetite picked right back up. Today, though, she isn't even interested in roasted turkey breast, which is usually one of her favorite treats.

She seems happy otherwise - purring, peeing, pooping, preening, playing....

Not sure where to go from here or what strategies to try to get her to eat.
 
Do you have any idea what her blood glucose is at this point in time? It's possible that it's gone up and is not longer being controlled by her diet. Inappetance in a diabetic cat can lead to a variety of serious health problems such as diabetic ketoacidosis or hepatic lipidosis. If her appetite doesn't return in the next day or so I strongly recommend taking her to see your vet.

As for what to eat: try warming her food, try feeding plain pureed meat baby food with no seasonings, try sardines, tuna, canned salmon, etc. She has to eat.
 
It is really important that your kitty eat.
Hang in there as I'm sure some experienced members will be along to help you out soon.
 
I'm also wondering if you are home testing and know ha your kitty's bg is. Does she look at the food and look away or lick her lips? It may be that she is nauseated. She might be brewing a pancreatitis and that can lead her back to diabetes. If none of the strategies that Kris and Teasel work tonight, I suggest that she see her vet.
 
If she still won't eat tomorrow, please take her to see your vet. Cats cannot go long at all without eating before they are at risk of serious, and sometimes deadly, complications.
 
As suggested by Just-As -Appy, I think she is nauseated. In fact, she has thrown up a few times over the past two days, but it is clear stomach liquid and hard to spot since her tummy is empty.

We will blood test her once my husband gets home - it takes two of us to do it - and go from there.
