    Hi FDMB friends,

I volunteer at the Seattle Animal Shelter and just met Cole, a 6yo russian blue male kitty who is diabetic. He was surrendered by his parents who must have struggled with all the challenges we share in caring for our lovely diabetic kitties. He is available for adoption immediately.

Cole is thin - his hip bones show and he is lethargic... he is ready for some TLC. Cole has a lovely personality - is peaceful and happy to accept pets and gives a deep purr in return. I wanted to alert anyone in the area that Cole is available for adoption if you can take him. I would take him but Sally is in her last years and I don't want to disrupt her routine in case it threatens her health.

    Thanks for sharing the info!

I am concerned he is lethargic. Is he getting insulin?
Has the shelter tested for ketones?

I doubt the shelter is doing anything above the bare minimum. I’m more concerned about how full all the shelters are and how little time most animals have before being euthanized these days. Injured animals are given less than 24 hours in a lot of shelters right now. He needs to be pulled by a rescue @Mustang Sally would you be able to foster to buy him more time if needed?

oh my goodness, this is giving me serious angst though I don't think I can take him...Minnie is still adapting to our loss of Sam and I don't think introducing a newcomer would be fair on either.

Having said that, @Mustang Sally do you know much about the foster family? - whereabouts in Seattle are they and are they testing/treating the diabetes? I would be willing to help with that. Poor beautiful boy.

It sounds like he’s in the shelter not a foster sadly
