? Diabetes and CKD

Hope this is ok to post here. It's not directly diabetes related but relevant.

Rom hates his kidney diet from the vets. It luckily has no effect on his blood sugar even though it is ful of crap and gravy. He 's not keen on any low phos food from Tanya's list, he just wants his Felix As good as it looks. The question is what would be lower in phosphorous - senior or kitten food?
 
Senior diets are usually low in protein and high in carbs. I believe I pushed Yum into diabetes with such a diet, trying to ward off CKD.
There is a list of low carb/low phosphorus foods on the Lantus intro pages.
What prescription kidney diet are you using that doesn't raise his blood sugar? I am interested.
Red meat is usually lower in phosphorus than fish or fowl.
Radcat raw frozen lamb is very low in phosphorus (I think their page says .54% by DM), about 100 mg per 100 kcal.
Wellness Core Beef Venison and Lamb (NEW RECIPE) is also good.
Unfortunately Yum gets diarrhea from red meat.

Feed him his normal favorite low carb food and add a phosphorous binder (Aluminum hydroxide) to it.
 
The aluminum hydroxide isn't doing it for me. Maybe that's because Yum's favorite foods are Fancy Feast Classics, which have 355 to over 400 mg of phosphorus per 100 kcal.
I've been working to lower her blood phosphorus for 3 months. :^(

Try weruva bff cans. They are low carb and low phosphorus.

The Aluminium hydroxide wasn't working for Rom either, but he wasn't getting it regularly when the other half fed him. I will find out next week what the next steps are.

He is on the Hills K/D food, and that is the one that doesn't raise his glucose levels.

I have checked the carb calculator and the Felix Senior food is 6.5%, so that's why I asked about the phosphorous.

I will look on the Lantus intro pages. Hope there's UK related stuff there.
 
Each capsule has 475mg in. I break it open and divide into 5 so he can have one lot on each meal. Is that enough?

She won't eat it. So frustrating. I have her on radcat raw frozen chicken now. No carbs. About 159 mg phosphorus per 100 kcal. Many people prepare their own raw meat recipes.

475mg aluminum hydroxide per day? That's a lot. I started Yum at 300 mg, took it up to 400 mg. Now it's about 350 mg. I assume you've read Tanya's web pages. My vet told me to use 300 mg. On Tanya's pages one doctor recommends 500 mg. I use loose powder, which I approximately measure with a 1/8 t = 150 mg.
