General Guidelines (potted version):
* If BG is in 50s, feed small amount of LC (1-2 tsps). Test in 20-30 mins. (If in the early-mid part of the cycle, consider feeding MC instead and also testing a little sooner.)
* If drop down to 40-50, feed small amount of HC food plus some of the gravy. Test in 15-20 mins.
* If drop below 40, in line with hypo guide recommendations give 1 tsp of karo/honey followed by small amt of HC food. Test in 15-20 mins.
Rinse and repeat until BG stays in a safe range for 2 hours without any food intervention.
HC treats like Temptations can be used if necessary to hold numbers up for longer, but it's considered that they may take a little longer to raise BG and it typically takes longer for them to work their way out of a kitty's system.
Cats vary in their sensitivity to carbs, i.e. some cats need a higher amount of carbs than others to bring up/keep their BG levels in the safe range, so sometimes it might be necessary to add a little drop of honey to the food used for steering when numbers need to be raised faster.
Jot down the times of the tests and the carb levels/amounts fed as you go along. It's valuable information that you can add to your spreadsheet later. It's so helpful to be able to refer back to something you know has worked previously.
Remember that you can always post here to ask for assistance, putting the time in the cycle and the low BG reading, e.g. "HELP! LOW NUMBERS: +4 48". If an emergency, set the 911 flag against the title. Should Feline Health be quiet, try posting for help on the Lantus board.
