I didn't recheck Felix's readings this morning, but he is capable of zooming like that. Makes me think he went low in the night despite the gentle flattish blues I caught. He woke me up early because he was hungry.

He has a vet appointment today at +5, mostly routine although I'm suspecting his mouth is bothering him--he's been leaving small spots of drool where he sleeps. He will not let me look in his mouth, so it may be uncomfortable ... or that may just mean that with all the ear-touching under protest, he feels he has to draw the line somewhere. His last bloodwork was a year ago in October when the vet chuckled and said it was really boring; paws crossed it's boring still.

Felix is such a 'fraidy cat, he'd really 'purrciate vines for his physical and emotional well-being today.

Thanks, everyone! Felix did well; we were home only a half hour when he emerged from hiding. The vet didn't get a thorough look in his mouth, but he could get enough of a look to see very red gums. He'll have a dental within the next few weeks, and then hopefully he'll be as good as new only better. We'll get lab results tomorrow.

I had sent the vet the Roomp & Rand published article and two weeks worth of Felix's glucose numbers. We had a good discussion about Felix's diabetes, but he's happy to let me manage it as we have been. (At diagnosis a year and a half ago, he was reluctant about home testing because he feels the helicoptering involved becomes a quality of life issue for cat and caregiver.) I was expecting the low human-meter numbers on Felix's spreadsheet to give him pause, but the vet surprised me by suggesting that I increase to 2.5 units (from 2.25).

So happy to hear that Chef Felix's exam went well. A dental will clear up those gums. The Chef will be able to taste his creations much better then!

A dental may also lead to lower numbers, although sometimes it takes a few weeks to see the difference.
