Diabetic Cats in Need has started a shelter/rescue program for diabetic cats. The case manager is Margaret Bussa, a member here as magyarlany, and the former Diabetic Care Manager at HART of Maine shelter where she had phenomenal success at getting diabetic cats OTJ (which in the stess of a shelter setting is difficult) and finding them forever homes mostly within the local community. DCIN is very lucky to have Margaret start up DCIN's new program. The purpose of the program is to educate shelters and rescues on "best practices" for managing feline diabetes, especially in an facility setting; provide them with low-cost or free insulin and blood glucose testing equipment; and provide them with a (hopefully soon to be well-known) social media site for promoting their diabetic cats for adoption.
Margaret started a new Facebook page this morning for her program at https://www.facebook.com/DCINShelterCats. Please come see the page and like it and share it if you can. The purpose of the page is to connect shelters and rescues trying to find adopters for diabetic cats with individuals wishing to adopt and crosspost. Please alert the shelters/rescues you know that care for diabetic cats to DCIN's new program and its new Facebook page.
