IVAN...
Ivan-1.jpg

Ivan (formerly Jules) is a broken diabetic that has been in foster care with Claudia in MA since April. He came out of a shelter on 6U of insulin and hasn't had a shot since. He is a beautiful big boy who wants to be the center of attention. Claudia says he would be good with children. You can read more about Ivan on the DCIN blog here.

Isabell...
ISABELL.jpg

Isabell is a recently diagnosed diabetic that has been in a "no-kill" shelter in central NJ for 18 months. She is scheduled to be PTS on or about 10/31/10. She is not being treated for her diabetes, which she likely acquired from shelter stress and dry shelter food. Shelter volunteers are doing their best to save her life. You can read more about Isabell on the DCIN blog here.

The other cats currently on DCIN's adoption list are:

Beasley (in DCIN foster with dian in Pittsburgh; will adopt separately from his friend Twinkie)
Doug (in foster with Claudia in MA)
Jacob (in foster with OLM Catnip Cottage in Summerville, SC)
Kiki (in a WV shelter)
Kitty (in foster with missyandlittlegray)
Pewter Boy (in foster with Claudia in MA)
Rusty (needs rehoming from Phoebe near Detroit)
Sebastian Purrbox (in foster with Stefani in MD)
Tawny (in DCIN foster with Desi)
Toby (in a Baltimore shelter)
Twinkie (in DCIN foster with dian in Pittsburgh; will adopt separately from his friend Beasley)
Yoda (in foster with Kelly in Bloomington, IN)

I invite the foster beans of cats of the DCIN adoption list to post updates about their charges on this thread. You may see new threads during the week if cats are added to DCIN's adoption or courtesy post lists. (The courtesy post list is here.) You also may see the foster beans post about these cats on Health and the Insulin Support Groups.

Last week was a very successful week, seeing Max moving from MA to NE to live with Mel and Porch2 (formerly Tiger) rescued from certain death in a CT shelter by Shelley (not an FDMB member but a recent FD convert when she adopted her friend's cat Bill). And that news is made even brighter because it seems both boys will be OTJ soon. We also saw Patti fly Pauline from WA to Patricia in TX. I know we can't do these sorts of miracles every week, but wouldn't it be nice?

Note: Last week's adoptable diabetic cats post.

Rusty managed to squirm into the hotel on the cat tree -- pretty cozy!

He's still interested in a furever home if anyone is seeking a loving big only-cat.

Quick update on Porch, the FD in Connecticut that Bill's mom Shelley is fostering. He's on his second full day of no insulin, BGs ranging in the mid 90s right now.

Jen,

Glad to see the update. What is with you and I and our broken diabetics? From my house Ivan, Vinnie, Mufasa, and last week Max - all either in remission at the Falls or on their way.

I think you have had even more than I.

Claudia

Phoebe,

Rusty looks great. I still miss him, even though my cats don't.

Claudia

Its because you two are just so good. =)

Here is an updated pic of Max.

He has found the purrfect window for bird watching

This would be the fourth DCIN broken kitty, Mr. Darcy, Bean, Bill and now Porch. I told Venita that I will be packing Tucker up, sending him down to her and then adopting him through DCIN. Since V only sends me the broken ones, by the time he gets back up here he should be off insulin

Max and Rusty both look amazing.

Guess I should send Venita Makita and adopt him thru DCIN. Sorianna I got from her and she isn't broken yet, the pretty fancy pants princess.

DCIN Update

A little DCIN update for those of you not following on FaceBook or the Yahoo Group. I am trying my best to keep DCIN news on FDMB to a minimum, but this is important stuff.

DCIN was accepted into Feline Pride's affiliate program. 10% of your order will go to DCIN if you go to Feline's Pride using the link on the front page of the DCIN Blog. I am very happy that DCIN was accepted into the program, and am hopeful about that funding source.

Time is coming up soon for a periodic fundraiser for DCIN. I am thinking about putting together three hostess baskets to raffle off. I can come up with the baskets, and I have scented candles from Sheri and Spyder (http://www.freewebs.com/iammommytwo/index.htm) to add. If you have something that you would like to donate for or ideas of what I should put into the baskets, please let me know.

If you would like to keep up with DCIN activities on a regular basis, and help me get DCIN-related information off the FDMB, please "like" DCIN on Facebook or join the DCIN Yahoo group.

Darn, now I have to get bigger baskets.

Thank you, dian, for donating a memorial video. I've seen two of your videos, and they are awesome. It won't be part of the baskets; I will offer it as a separate raffle prize. THANK YOU!!

New addition to adoptables list---Tommy

VA96.17720870-2-x.jpg

Tommy is in Charlottesville, VA, in shelter-sponsored foster care with Rhea, an active member of Diabetic Cat Care. He is already a broken diabetic (that is, diet controlled), and needs someone who understands the importance of maintaining his low-carb, wet food diet. You can read more about Tommy on his blog page.

Update on Tawny--

I spoke to Desi last week, and she tells me that Tawny is the sweetest cat. A recent dose increase to 1.75U of Lantus has brought her from the mid-200s down to the mid 100s. Tawny will be getting a dental procedure this week, just in case there are oral health problems that are affecting her regulation. (Tawny's blog page here.)

Isabell (link in sig line) is still at risk. She had her blood drawn today, and the results are due back in tomorrow. Although shelter management has now told the volunteers they never set a PTS date, management still is not going to treat her diabetes (won't even switch her to all wet food) and will reevaluate her status based on the progress of her disease. Aaarrrgggghhhh!
