I introduced Alex and myself last week. I was worried that my tempermental boy would not allow us to do home testing or insulin shots, but today we started and so far, so good.

I also have created a spreadsheet and am hoping it will shot up when I post.

Thanks for all your advice!!

Ginny & Alex

I'm glad to hear your Alex is doing well so far with the testing and shots. It gives me hope that Smokey will do okay also when we get started. I've been messing with his ears a lot lately and he seems okay but that is just with touching. It cold be a different story when I'm sticking them with something.

Very nice numbers today for the first day on insulin. Are you feeding small frequent meals? Sometimes that will ease down those ps numbers, especially if you leave out a snack overnight.

Please add what you are feeding and insulin type to your signature so we won't ask you each time.

You may want to post over in the PZI forum also. Everyone there is working with PZI and you can learn a lot from the collective experiences.

Hi Ginny, and, of course, you too, ornery Alex,

Wowsa! His numbers are looking very good!

Has anyone mentioned how incredibly proud we are of you? I am!

Love and encouraging hugs,
Deb and Nikki -- and, Giz, forever ornery in my heart...

Congrats on your testing and getting the spreadsheet up. You are way ahead of the game---usually takes people longer to get the hang of it. And those numbers look terrific! :thumbup

Thanks for your words of encouragement. I'm proud of us too!

I must admit that Alex has surprised me in letting me poke and stick him. So, if Alex lets me, I would think Smokey will let you too.

Sue,
I still have to figure out how to do the profile thing (I read the directions, but they didn't make sense). But right now, I'm feeding FF and some EVO at 6:30 am, 6:30pm and a small snack around 10:00 or 10:30m. (Do you recommend more often than that?) I guess I need to get one of those automatic feeders, but haven't gotten to that yet. I used to feed dry food and they always had that available. Audrey (the non-diabetic) is starved in the mornings because I think Alex is snarfing up the entire snack at night. Not sure how to manage that just yet.

I can't update Alex's spreadsheet from work (access is blocked), but I did the AM stick. 385 this morning.
I don't know if I'm imagining things and I just have hopeful thinking, but it seems that there is already a little less urine in the litter box.

I always look at a lot of urine in the litter box as a good things :) different point of view, I know. When they are first Dx. our babies are drinking and eliminating like crazy, so we tend to look at less urine as a good thing. Then we we change them over to wet food (if we haven't been feeding) and hopefully mixing water in with it ..... and we are back again! I have needed to add extra boxes and I don't care. I lost two civvies to kidney problems in the last year and since cats normally don't drink a lot, the water in a food that is usually full of water, perfect! To me all that moisture going through them is good .... I have ten cats and all of them eat the wet like a soup, and love it! How to get a cat to drink! feed them!!
Nancy and Payne (doesn't mind the soup as long as she gets gizzards and livers as treats!)

If your cats are used to having food available at all times you don't have to change that pattern because you have switched to wet. You can leave the wet out mixed with some water to keep it from drying up. You can also freeze food in ice cube trays and leave a frozen puck that will defrost for later.

I can't leave out food right now because Alex will eat it all. Poor Audrey doesn't want to inhale hers, so I think she's missing out on her food.

How many meals are people feeding per day? I thought I read somewhere that the morning BG level should be done with at least 6 hours of fasting. But honestly, I've read so much lately, I can't keep track.

Hi Ginny, and, of course, you too, sweet and maybe not as ornery Alex -- and, Audrey, who likes to eat at a polite pace,

Would it be possible to set up a different dining area for Audrey? You know, where she could eat at a leisurely pace? Perhaps adding some linens and mood lighting might help her adjust... ;o) Alex can still chow down wherever he's used to chowing down...

It varies. I'm a free feeder, so wet food is out all day and night. Some people feed four times a day. Some people maybe less. It's whatever works for you and your cats...

I remember when I first started dancing with Gizzie, there were times I went to bed (finally...) not with a head ache, but with a brain ache... It is a lot to take in and record in your memory bank! I found re-reading most helpful...

Love and continuing encouraging hugs for you all,
Deb and Nikki -- and, Giz...

Deb,
I love the idea of linens and mood lighting!

Dearest Ginny -- sorry Alex, definitely girl talk,

I'm so glad! Hope Audrey appreciates the presentation... Perhaps some edible centerpiece?
