My heart is breaking. Dax seemed fine this morning when I fed him, his blood sugars have remained between 70 and 90,and he was doing great - until today. I have been out all day, my Roomate has been caring for him. When I finally got home she told me Dax has been lethargic all day and just not himself. I checked his sugar and it was really high, called my vet's after hour number and gave him a unit per her advice of Lantus. Checked an hour later and neither of my meters could read his sugar it had dropped so low. After another call to my vet it was off to the ER we went after giving him some honey. His BG is all over the board, they have him on fluids and monitoring his sugars closely until he can be transfered to my regular vet tomorrow.

Does anyone know of a group that can help with the emergency care? This month was already going to be very hard financially due to some other emergencies that have come up with my bird and on of my dogs. I know I need more Lantus if he is going to need to go back on insulin, and nobody around me will sell a single pen, I either have to buy a box of 5 or buy a vial.

So overwhelmed - Praying he stabilizes quickly and is out of danger soon!

Thank you for the responses, I have spoken to most of these groups in the past and was denied due to Dax's age or the fact that this is a chronic uncurable condition. I will try cats in crisis and the lantus fund.

You might check out Go Fund Me and FundRazr.

Basically, you present your case and ask folks if they'd like to contribute. They do take a small percentage as a fee.

The one below looks better, though.

I'm wondering if he had an attack of pancreatitis. If yes, it is very painful and maybe some pain meds would help him stabilize.

Dax is home but numbers still jumping around. After being hospitalized because I was as well my vet did several glucose curves and just couldn't figure out what his pancreas is doing. So we sat down and set a range table. Under 100, no insulin. 100-150 he gets .5u, 150-225 he gets 1 u. 225-275 1.5u, over 275 2u, over 350 call and we will discuss what to do. He has had some higher 200s, and 2 1/2 days we didn't need any. But his Attitude is back and acting like himself.

http://fundapetmiracle.com/projects/devon-rex-medical1/1166. I did get an organization to set this up to help me with some of the big health issues I was not told about before I took these two in, she will probably raise the goal to help with this emergency but it all depends on how many donate.

That link says there's 0 days left and won't let me donate?

I would suggest that if he does need to continue on insulin, at least a little bit, you ask to switch him to ProZinc. It's much less expensive than the upfront cost of Lantus and works much much better on a dosing scale and is also more forgiving when you don't have to give shots every cycle.

When severe, inflammatory bowel disease flares may cause a cat to stop eating from pain. You may see vomiting, diarrhea, &/or inappetance too.
