My heart is breaking. Dax seemed fine this morning when I fed him, his blood sugars have remained between 70 and 90,and he was doing great - until today. I have been out all day, my Roomate has been caring for him. When I finally got home she told me Dax has been lethargic all day and just not himself. I checked his sugar and it was really high, called my vet's after hour number and gave him a unit per her advice of Lantus. Checked an hour later and neither of my meters could read his sugar it had dropped so low. After another call to my vet it was off to the ER we went after giving him some honey. His BG is all over the board, they have him on fluids and monitoring his sugars closely until he can be transfered to my regular vet tomorrow.
Does anyone know of a group that can help with the emergency care? This month was already going to be very hard financially due to some other emergencies that have come up with my bird and on of my dogs. I know I need more Lantus if he is going to need to go back on insulin, and nobody around me will sell a single pen, I either have to buy a box of 5 or buy a vial.
So overwhelmed - Praying he stabilizes quickly and is out of danger soon!
