I still check his BG for the most part and today he was at 70 before he ate and 94 +1, 91 +2. I know these are still good numbers but he had been anywhere from 56 to 64 pre feeding and then only up maybe 10 points an hour or so after he ate.
Getting a little nervous and thinking something is going on. They normally eat every 4-5 hours so tonight I'll be sure to wait the 5 hours before feeding him and see where he's at.

Re: Dasher on the rise....

Food batches can vary in composition and fall is a notorious time for it. Check the batch numbers on the food you're giving.

Re: Dasher on the rise....

You track them as you get them; that way, if there are batch changes which line up with glucose changes or illness, you may be able to identify the food as the cause.

Re: Dasher on the rise....

I'll have to pay attention. Blitzen is eating the same food and his numbers are great. I'm not feeling so confident right now.

That is still a good number.

Is he eating, drinking, eliminating, maintaining a good weight, hydrated, normally active/playful/content, teeth/mouth in good shape, with no ketones, nor glucose in urine? (See my signature link Secondary Monitoring Tools for ways to assess)

He's more that a glucose test and it is important to look at the whole picture. And what is the worst that can happen? He might need insulin again. You know how to manage that safely. And if something else is brewing, you will deal with it as best you can. It could just be a kitty cold.

Robin,

Maxwell has been OTJ now for 4+ years and he runs anywhere from 50's to 90's depending on when I test him. Remember BGs can temporarily raise for a lot of reasons. Excitement over a bird outside the window, a dust up with Blitzen, hairball, a scary dream etc. Maxwell once even threw me a 135 and I freaked until about 10 minutes later he went over and upchucked a huge hairball, retested him an hour later and he was right back to 75. With the holidays right around the corner Dasher could be picking up on the excite and stress of the season.

Hidey is the dame way. He's been OTJ for 8 months and he's never been as "low" as a lot of the others that went OTJ. Hideysusually between the 50's-90's as well. I too start to freak when I get the higher numbers, but remind myself he's still in the "normal" range and let him be. As all ready mentioned there can be so many reasons so the number to rise. As long as numbers stay in the normal range, and is acting fine just take a deep breath and remind your self of how far you've come and that the numbers are still normal. We just came out of a huge stressful....ordeal I guess I will call it lol. All 3 of my cats decided to go nuts lol. I had to keep them all separate for a week, and do a reintroduction and I was so worried about Hidey's bg because of the stress. I didnt want to test him at the moment because I knew it would be higher and didnt want to add to the stress. I finally tested him the other night, a week after everything calmed down and they were all back together and he was 87. I was so relieved it wasnt higher lol.

Of course it is....How could he and his brother Blitzen pull Santa Claws sleigh next week if he had to report home for his stickers?...lol
