I just did my first BG read on dasher, I will get around to making his graph.
It was 162 taken 3 1/2 hours after eating and his 3rd dose of insulin. Thoughts?

I will do a curve in a week I'm thinking but need to know a few things, we've been feeding him every 4-6 hours to get in the calorie count required. When doing the curve do I want to just do a feeding one time and then just test every two hours, no more food?
Neither cat at this point can eat an entire can of FF at one sitting. I'm planning on getting to a six hour apart feeding serving one can at each sitting, I'm still a little unclear about feeding with just the wet food.

I'm thrilled I was able to get blood !!

Yayyyyy!

Congrats on your first bg test!

Ok.....now, on to the questions. Your using Lantus correct? Also. how many units again?

If you could get another test in about 2-3 hours that would be great. between +5-+7 is usually nadir but ECID.

Hopefully someone with Lantus experience will chime in about the food, I would think it would be fine since that is your daily routine and actually doing small meals throughout the day instead of something like 2 large feedings is easier on the pancreas. I feed mine every 4-5 hrs.

Goal with testing is before each shot of insulin and at nadir to see how the Lantus is working :-D

First Welcome to the Vampire Club!! bet you never thought you would be so thrilled to be a member huh?

Good job on your first test.

Now what dose did you decide on?

Most of us feed small frequent meals, I feed mine at preshot and then 4 hours later, just because of the way my girl works her insulin.

When running a curve you want to keep the feeding schedule the same, as any other day. You just test every two hours between shots.

This first dose yesterday morning was 3u , last night 2u and this morning 2u....yes Lantus.
So I should get another just before his next shot? I'll do this tonight.
I'll do the more once I'm a little more comfortable with it.

Your baby looks just like my Dasher !

Since he is already down to 162 at +3 I would grab another test in about 3 hours from the last one. You don't want him dropping below 40 ever if you can help it. If he drops below 50 you start feeding him up or what is known around here as feeding the curve. Where you start giving small teaspoonful of his regular food every half hour so that he doesn't drop to fast or go to low but just hangs in those nice low numbers.

Yup, that's my Hidey...the sanest of the bunch lol. He's 14 years old, and probably the healthiest and most active hes been in years (minus a few teeth  ).

Hidey's diabetes diagnosis was a huge eye opener and made me start paying better attention to his health, diet, and over all attitude. I thought he was lazy and sluggish due to age when really it was because he wasnt eating right, was over weight, and then diabetic. Now he's eating better, jumping on things he shouldnt, knocking things off the counter that he shouldnt, shoving his way into my lap when I try to type, and OFF insulin and we couldnt be happier. It's definitely a journey, but well worth it.

Ok I just took his BG and its at 180 and he's due for his next shot in 45 min. so todays we had a 162 at the 3 1/2 hour mark after morning shot, then 5 hour mark he was at 219 and now 10 hours mark he's at 180.
I'm not going to does him until some one here can advise me on such.

Hello ,
I'm back after a little break. Just wanted to let everyone know Dasher is doing very well with his Lantus. We will be doing his first official curve in a week, I have been doing random BG testing and his numbers have come down with no hypo drops.
I will report back with his numbers from his curve next week.
