I just changed Daphne's food to Natura Innova EVO w/no grain. She has been on it for 24 hours now. Her numbers are good, between 114-155. She still is asking for her snack of 1/4 can two to three times a day. She gets 1/2 can at dose time (every 12 hours). Oh, and most importantly, she LOVES IT!
I still am going to call the company tomorrow because it looks like they have a 2% carb food, and this can does not say EVO 95%, so I want to find out about that to see if I have the lowest carb they make.

I'll update if anyone cares to monitor our progress. (And if you were not following my post, Daphne was on Purina DM can, since 11/2011 when diagnosed)

Also, sorry, I'm having trouble making a profile for Daphne and picture. Not good with this kind of thing…read the instructions, but it's all Greek to me.

Now on EVO

Hi Dyana,
I guess I have the one that is just "EVO" Chicken/Turkey. It doesn't say 95%. This is the only one the pet store had (Cats and Dogs in Pennington). I wanted to go to PetSmart, but not up to it today.

I am so happy they are building a PetsMart in Flemington. I can't wait for it to be done. I have to drive 20+ miles to the one in Bridgewater.

Oh, yes Flemington would be much better for you, I don't like driving to Bridgwater. I go to the one on Rt 1. It looks like they are building a lot of things in Flemington. We've been up that way to take my son to and from College. I was using a home delivery from Pet Food Direct for my other cat who also had diabetes for years, so I postponed all deliveries till I make sure of what I will be using and also look into the best price. With my illness, its not always easy to get around much, and lifting heavy cans would not be good. I know that Dogs and Cats overcharges, so I won't be buying large amounts from them.

Take a look at this [urlhttps://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B8Uu8g1u8Su9YTgxNGE1MDItM2MyMC00Y2Y3LWI4ODMtMzhkYTkxOGM4NThk&sort=name&layout=list&num=50&pli=1]compilation of foods[/url]. Make sure you're giving EVO Natura not Innova Natura -- the carb counts are vastly different.

Also, if you can get at least a before bed test every night that will help us all feel reassured that Daphne isn't dropping too low overnight.

Just jumping in to say "Hey Neighbor" too! I'm sorry I haven't visted your other condos...but I live in Pennington and do all my shopping at Dogs and Cats - small world, considering how small Pennignton is! I like to support them since they are a small business (I also own a small retail store), and they are more than willing to order anything you want - and it comes in right away. I've got a few things to do, but will catch up on you and Daphne at some point in the next day or so. Welcome to LantusLand!

Hey Daphne and Trixie, J.D. said he'll come by and pick you two ladies up and take you to The Full Moon Party tonight.

He's 17 too, and he'll be a complete gentlemen.

Innova makes two types of EVO: the regular cat/kitten EVO and the EVO 95% ones. All are suitable for diabetic cats :thumbup I believe the cat/kitten one is around 4% carbs and most of the EVO 95% ones are around 2% carbs. They are listed on this chart: https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B8...MzhkYTkxOGM4NThk&sort=name&layout=list&num=50

OH my, what a small world…
Wow, Daphne never had a date before, but I guess she is of age. I guess I will let her go for a little drive with JD. My husband thinks we're all going crazy. My life turned into, get up in the AM, test, feed, test, feed, test shot, feed, snack, test, maybe feed, maybe test or no, I'll give her a brake, test, oh she's walking better!… test again, and feed….Ahhhhh!

OK, so I bookmarked the things everyone sent. From what I see, EVO is pretty good, but I see its not much different then the protein amount that was in the Purina DM, (no, I'm not going back to that, I never did like the ingredients, but just was ignorant about it, and lazy not to do the research I usually always put into all my family's health.

I'm sorry if I was rude about small business, especially that my husband is very big on making sure we support the town, he will always call the hardware store on Delaware first before Home Depot, and we always went to Jann's for all our candy gifts before it sunk into the ground from the earthquake, or was it the hurricane??

Oh, one more thing, I do try and test before bed, but don't worry, I am up till 2:00 AM or 3:00 AM and she is right next to me most of the night and early morning, then my husband gets up at 5:30 AM. And I am still trying to get him to test as much as he can in the AM, but some of the test you see on the SS are at 3:00 AM sometimes. We have some crazy hours around here, but it works most of the time.

Thanks all!
Barb and Daphne

Diabetes does change everything - suddenly - but what can ya do? You do eventually settle into a routine.

I don't think you were rude about small businesses; it certainly makes sense to find the best price you can. I've always been very pleased with the service at Dogs and Cats (the people there know what they're talking about - something you never get from those big places), and they're so close to home, that I like buying from them. They've always accomodated my requests, and anything I've asked them to order has come in within a couple days - AND they've always called me right away to let me know. Just something to keep in mind!

EVO is great food, although my Trixie doesn't love it.

Jann's (now Uncle Ed's) sunk after hurricane Irene. I've always heard horros stories of the landlord for that shopping center...some sort of catastrophe was bound to happen at some point. Very sad, but they should be able to re-open at some point soon!

Since you're in the area...which vet do you use?

TrixieCat,

Oh, I heard the same thing about that landlord, and forgot its Uncle Ed's now, even though he was the second owner, then sold, then repurchased,… I think thats what happened.

I do like the way Dogs and Cats know so much about their food and if there really isn't a large price difference I may just ask them to order me the EVO by the case.

I go to Pennington Vet, across from Rosedale Mills. We have been hopping from Vet to Vet for the past 25 years, with our 5 cats, as long as we have been living here. I've covered most of them including West Trenton.
Hopewell Vet. was ok, but needs some remodeling I think, and not happy that they gave my last cat the dry DM food, so I went back to Pennington Vet… long story, had some problems with them with another cat, but they were pretty good with Daphne, but still, they told me to give her Purina DM can, so I'm so lucky to find this site and board. It truly is a life saver, for both my sanity and my Daphne's health!

Hope we can bump into each other sometime in town!

Dogs and Cats regularly stocks most foods by the case - they have it in the back, on shelves. You just have to ask. If they don't have a full case, they'll get one in for you within a few days. And I'm pretty sure they give 10% discount if you buy by the case. Also, if you buy case quantities off the shelves, that also qualifies for the case discount. And, they have a "customer club" - have them put your name in the computer, and after you spend a certain amount (I can't remember if it's $300 or $500), they give you a $15 gift card. They also have a location on Route 1, in the shopping center where Whole Foods is.

Sounds like you've done the same vet hopping that I've done. Hopewell has been off my list for 16 years now, for a variety of reasons. I've had issues at Pennington, too - I ended up dropping them about 9 years ago. I've settled in at Princeton Animal Hospital. It's a bit of a haul and pricey, but they are very thorough and pretty current on things. I think I made them nervous at first, when I said I'd be following the TR protocol, but now they see I've got a handle on things.

Yes, this board has been a huge help!
