I went to get my first lesson in cleaning dirty ears from Jackie, the rescue group leader that I got Daisy from about three weeks ago. (Also, that's where Oliver came from)
So, basically Jackie cleaned a bunch of stuff out of Daisy's ear. She mentioned that I should get an ear wash, which is at the vet's. So I called the the and they said that we should come on by and we could do the exam/microchipping then instead of in two weeks time, which was scheduled.
Everyone fell in love with her and was happy to meet her. Dr K looked at her ears and thought that she had mites. Low and behold, they got some samples and put them under a microscope and they found a small amount. They washed her ears out and got a ton of brown gunk out. Wow, that was gross. They ran out of the ear mite stuff so one of the techs who lives by me is coming over either later on Sunday or on Tuesday, depending on when they get the meds from the hospital down the street. We gave her some Revolution in the meantime.
But, that's the easy part.
Daisy had a check up and a dental at another hospital right before she came to me and they missed the mites and the fact that she could have stomatitis. OMG! I don't know much about it but will start my research later. I know that it's treatable but I also know that it could be really bad. She's only 2 1/2.They gave me some transdermal Buprinex to give her for any potential pain.
We go in on Thursday morning to see the dental specialist at our vet's office to see what the plan is. In the meantime, Dr K is going to call the clinic that did the dental to see what exactly they did, as it could have been done a bit roughly or whatever.
Does anyone know much about stomatitis? I will look it up online but I am most interested in hearing about people's personal experiences with it.
She does not appear to be in pain at all.
I feel kicked in the gut and I worry about her.
Thanks.
