Hi!

Noodles has been diagnosed with diabetes, but yesterday she was at the vet because of a very deep cut, and they suspect she has cushings. She's been bandaged up, and has another appointment tomorrow for the diabetes (blood checks, we struggle with this at home) but after reading about it online, I'm not feeling good about it. Have any of you experienced this with your cats? I feel utterly at a loss and stunned that she's going through so much in such a short period of time.

Her skin is very thin, and although she isn't overweight anymore, she has a pot belly. She's been licking the side with the cut a lot, but I first noticed the cut yesterday morning so got her to the vet. Beside this cut, there's also another patch forming, and just now I've noticed where she's been bandaged, the fur is coming away and it's starting to affect her skin. Slightly red. Waiting on the vet calling now, but she has a diabetic appointment tomorrow morning anyway. She's constantly hungry, and over the past few days has been drinking more, she's had diarrhea a lot as well
 
They said she could have just brushed against something, and it could have ripped her skin, but not necessarily anything sharp considering it's so thin there. They couldn't stitch it either, as they said it would just tear. I'm so worried. They'd talked about her quality of life and if she had one. I think they were gently planting the seeds of possibly putting her to sleep. :(

I'm so sorry, that is so sad and scary.
 
There treatments for Cushings, depending on what caused it. This article has a description of a successful treatment for a kitty with pituitary caused Cushings, the most common kind. I would strongly recommend you see if you can get Noodles into see an internal medicine vet who might be more versed in treating this condition. :bighug::bighug:
 
Thanks. I'm feeling a bit better than I was the other night, apologies for the dramatics! She's booked in to be tested for this on the 2nd, so hopefully once she can get medicated, it'll be under control for as long as possible. Thanks for the link, I'll have a look over. Her wound isn't as deep as first thought, and is healing. She's got a large patch of missing fur around it though, and the vet thinks another piece of skin will come off soon. We're keeping a close eye on her, and she's wearing a cone to prevent further damage. Honestly, what an absolute roller-coaster this has been for her!
 
I've seen a number of people with Cushing's kitties invest in clothing, such as onsies or medical pet shirts, to protect their skin. It also helps cover any sores. Good to hear the wound isn't as deep as originally thought.

I know, seems to have healed over okay. I'd upload a photo, but it's a bit graphic, and don't want to upset anyone. She's got an appointment on Friday to get tested for it, we're carrying on with the insulin in the meantime, and she's on antibiotics and painkillers for her side. Which is developing into a bigger patch of fur loss. I just wish it had been picked up on before now, but hopefully she'll get the treatment she needs soon
 
The good news, if it's pituitary caused, and that's the most common kind, is that treatment with trilostane seems to help with the skin fragility.

Yeah, the vet seemed to think a pill would be the treatment. It's looking bad today, really bad. I've sent a photo to the vet in case she wants to get her in sooner than Friday, as its bigger daily. I've seen photos online with cats who have this, and I think Noodles must be at a late stage since it's so bad.
 
I was just reading today the book "Adaptogens" by David Winston. There is a case file about a pony with Cushings. They used Periactin but due to expense they switched to NAF D-Tox that contains eleuthero and schisandra and some other herbs and there was improvement within a month. I wonder if it would help kitties?
