Could shot technique be an issue?

Ok, I give up. Increased yesterday, have spent 2 days at home getting numbers. No change. One yellow this morning pre-pre shot, back to pink AMPS and now red by +9.5.

Is there a way to gauge whether your shot technique is to blame? I generally grab a roll of skin with my left hand and roll it to the left over my fingers. I do this usually higher up on Linus' side, moving front/back and right/left. I then put the needle in at approx a 45% angle. I put a little leverage on it coming out so I feel it coming out of the skin and know it was in. I fairly certain I'm not giving fur shots, but maybe the places I'm giving them are not the best for insulin absorption.

Could those of you who know your insulin is working please give me ideas as to how you shoot? I am beginning to think he isn't getting enough, or maybe any.

Sue,

I've wondered the same thing too. Some times his dose works great and some times not. I try to be consistant in my shots, but i'm beginning to think maybe it's me in giving the shot. Maybe absorbs differently. Who knows. Will be following this thread to see what others have to say. Do you use the shorter needles(5/16) or longer(1/2)? Maybe that has something to do with it. I use the shorter ones because they don't seem to hurt him as much.

Good luck!

I posted this over on Chester’s thread today too, it’s just what we do, and so far so good:

We have experimented with shooting sites and what seems to work best for us is near Asher’s shoulder on the side. He’s “big boned” so I try to find a place of his skin we can tent that has no fat under it.
When he crouches to eat, that is an easy area to pinch and shoot. I go in at a 45 degree angle to the skin tent pinched between my fingers. We use the shorter needles on the U100 syringes. I move around from day to day and sometime switch sides. The area I move around in is still at his shoulder, I just try not to get the same exact spot every time.

I also think absorption is good for us there too. FWIW....

I use the longer needles, that's what was on the U40 syringes, so I kept that length when I bought the U100's. I have found that spot just behind the shoulder blade as he is crouching, I'll try that the next few shots and use a tent instead of the roll technique.

I have been thinking the same thing too!!
Sometimes he has great days and other days it has got to be the way I shoot...
just cant get hold of the best way yet
