Yes, me again.

We used to give Dweezil a tiny sprinkle of plain Metamucil with his wet food for dinner as he was prone to constipation.

I see the main ingredient is psyllium husk. This is a grain i assume...which would appear to be bad.

But then i read that psyllium can actually lower blood sugar...

Anyone have any experience with this? Dweezil hasn't needed any Metamucil since his diagnosis, which is good and interesting...

Was it the regular or sugar free? Don't know if that would make a difference but added sugar can't be good.

The Metamucil with sugar would definitely not be good for a diabetic kitty, but I worry more about the aspartame in the sugar free Metamucil - not just for my kitty but for humans as well. It has been linked with some very scary side effects.

I drink it everyday, not the sugar free but the real sugar one. I ingeste nothing with artificial sweetener, they are just terrible for you.

Thanks for sharing this. I use Metamucil every day and hate the added sugar. This would be just as good?
Many people use the plain powder instead of the Metamucil w/ additives.
I use it mainly for the cats, but when I have used it myself, I have put in my yogurt, oatmeal, juice, a smoothie. I don't think it would taste very good with just water.
Psyllium is suppose to have a ton of health benefits too.

One of the foods I trialled with Saoirse had no soluble fibre at all and it constipated her, so I added psyllium husk powder to her food and her BGs were good. Word of warning, the barest trace of psyllium husk powder in a meal can go a long, long way!

Oh yes, for sure! We had Dweez on the flavourless Metamucil (no sugar or sweeteners) for several years, just with his dinner. He never noticed it was there. It kept him sort of regular...once every two days he would go, but he always seemed to have to strain. Now, since being diagnosed as Diabetic, we have stopped the Metamucil and he now goes everyday and it seems much easier for him. YAY! lol
