Cost for a vial of lev?

I am curious about the cost range for a vial of levemir. I assume the vials are 10ml, u100 and therefore contain 1000u.

Cody is a 14 yr old acrocat (dx Feb2010), diabetic 3 yrs and has been pouring through 26u /day of Prozinc and rising. (The 10ml U40 vial has 400units and costs me $84, which lasts about 2 weeks).

I've read that some high dose kitties use lev because of the sting factor, but my vet isn't familiar with it. Considering a switch...

Just google levemir online pharmacy and look through several to compare prices.

For example http://www.pharmacyrxworld.com/buy-Levemir.html

1x 10ml vial (contains 1000 units) $88.27 (that's $8.83 per 100 units)
5x 3ml Flex pens (contains 1500 units) $125.00 ($8.33 per 100 units)

Compare to your PZI
1x 10ml (contains 400 units) $84.00 (that's $21.00 per 100 units)

A big savings!

Of course there is going to be shipping charges if you order online (this one is in Canada so maybe a bit more) try calling some local drug stores too and ask. I do think either way it will cheaper than PZI.

Are there any acromoms in lev land who post often enough to advise on a switch with a high dose kitty? Most beans find our doses terrifying.

Frequent testing isn't an issue for us.

I think there are quite a few Levemir acrocats because it is more cost effective. Shop around for the best price source - probably Canada, but you will need a prescription to order from Canadian pharmacies.

Nancy, the High Dose ISG is a great place - very nice people over there. My sister, who is a human acro (honorary acrocat) sometimes posts there. She shares the patient's point of view, so speaks for the cats!

I order from canadadrugsonline.com and they charge $10 for shipping. have ordered bith lev and lantus form them multiple times and no problems.

Being that you are already a practiced Acro Mom, I personally wouldn't be to too skeered of your high doses- you may need to remind folks here or put in your signature that you are confirmed acro....otherwise, we can help you adjust to the generalities of levemir like settle time, care and keeping and so forth.
