Does anybody have the % protein/fat/carb breakdown for Wellness Core Chicken,Turkey & chicken Liver recipe?

It isn't on the charts. I know the protein is higher than regular Wellness, but not sure what the carbs are in relation. Don't want to assume they are same as in regular wellness.

I have the as-fed info...but figure enough people are feeding this that this may already be common Knowledge.
I learned that I DO NOT know how to use the formula l on Janet's page http://binkyspage.tripod.com/foodfaq.htm to properly calculate. Mine never add up.

I have an expiring coupon today and don't want top get a case without first checking.

It's on the old board: http://www.felinediabetes.com/phorum5/r ... sg-1363133

Thanks for the link squeem3, I didn't expect it to that high in fat or carbs, thoug the carbs are still good enough.

Anyone have any ideas why the calculation would have the total cals in 5.5oz can at 139.8 while the company lists it on their website as having 218cals per can? Since all the calories have to come from fat/protein/carbs, wouldn't that mean at least one of those is off?

The first post in the reference to the old forum said Wellness gave a value of 3.44% carbs (DMB). However, the second post gave different values based on calculations that that member performed using as fed values from Wellness. As you noticed, the total calories differ significantly 218 per Wellness site and 140 per the second poster's calculation. The second poster did not give the DMB number she used. I suspect that the second poster made an error. The Wellness site does not easily give all the as fed values to easily perform a calculation since it does not specify either % moisture or % carbs.

I used the calculator here:
http://www.scheyderweb.com/cats/catfood.html
and did some iterations (different moisture values) until I got the right number (218) calories per 5.5 oz can. That iteration got me 72% moisture and 3.14% carbs and 220 calories per 5.5 oz (40 cal/oz).

Therefore, I conclude that the % carbs is a little more than 3.

Edit: the ~3% above is based on canned food with moisture. There are 142 cal/100 grams (per calculator) and the ~3% wet corresponds to 11 calories /100 grams (per calculator). As a % of calories the carbs are 11/142 which is 7.7% of calories from carbs. The 7.7% agrees with the second poster's carb number (she did specify if that number was weight or % calories).

It is very easy to make a calculation mistake since there are different ways of presenting the data.

My previous calculation of ~3% carbs was with moisture weight %). See the edited post for the % carbs as a basis of calories. Answer is 7.7% of calories is from carbs.

I have attached the Nutrient profiles I received from the company a week ago if that helps. i get lost trying to use Janet's formula at about step 3. Mine never compute correctly.

This includes the As-Fed values. Perhaps this data is more current?
See if this changes or clarifies anything.

Already bought some...he really likes it, so hope it's ok.

If 7.7% ..It's nearly twice what the regular Wellness carbs are, if that is accurate.
If the protein is much higher than regular Wellness, which it is supposed to be, then it would seem the carbs/fat would correspondingly be lower.

It is advertised as having:
Higher Protein (50% more than Wellness diets) from Premium Meat!

Per Janet /Binky Chart- regular Wellness chicken has: 30%Pro/ 66% Fat /4% Carb 0.2Fib /219Phos /220Cals

That isn't reflected in the above mentioned:
Protein ~ 31.8%
Fat ~ 60.5%
Carbohydrate ~ 7.7%

DOESN'T jive or MAKE SENSE???

Using the PDF info you provided I got 7.6% of calories is from carbs for the poultry. That is really the same as I previously (with edit) calculated.

Regarding the 50% more protein, I agree that the total protein is not much more. However, Wellness may be using the type of protein. The Wellness statement says 50% more than Premium Meat . Thus the normal Wellness may not have that much Premium Meat.

yeah..I saw that. Could be semantics but marketing is directed at higher protein needs. That is target of this sub-line.
That's why I wondered about the calculations.

Also saw this elsewhere: on the same Core canned chicken recipe:
Increased Protein Levels - 20% more protein than traditional Wellness canned diets to support lean muscle mass

Something is askew.

&
i already bought 8 cans!

I wished we could get the charts updated.
I am happy to supply the nutrient info. I have received on several different brands/varieties.
And happy to call around for more.

Want to be able to make confident choices purchasing diets for the kitties. Once I get them home, they still have to like them. but I'd at least like to buy knowing I am getting LC/High Protein.

I've been feeding FF, with carbs of 3 and 4. Anyone know what impact moving to a 7 would have? Is that a significant increase in carbs?

Not sure if it's one of those ECID things or not but I can see a jump in Tugger's numbers when I feed him 7% vs the 5% or less I generally feed. So for Tugger I consider 7% to be MC and can use it to gently bring up low numbers or to maintain happy numbers if I need to go out and worry he might drop.

Other people can regularly feed 7-10% and still consider it LC but in our house that's MC or MHC (med-high carb) and the things those folks consider MC are our HC and so their HC is our Karo (it'd have to be pretty desperate for me to have to use Karo at all, we'd be in the car on the way to the ER) I write carb numbers on the tops of every can of food in the house and hubby and son know to only feed 5 or less unless I tell 'em otherwise. We do have HC food that the civvies eat, I call it the counter food and label with a B (both girls are B's and they seem to eat on the counter the most) but Tugger is slimming down and may soon make the leap so I think that's going to end soon.

I added some columns to Tugger's ss so I could keep notes on what I feed him but I'm not always good at coming back to it and fixing the percents so some boxes may only have the food but not carb content. It'd be nice if the boxes would change color based on % kind of like the BG number boxes do (cuz I'm just too lazy to find my list or print another copy or click the link to open the chart online) but I'm also too lazy to try to figure out if that's even possible so it'll never happen.
