Hi Everyone! Been so busy the last month with all my girls year end stuff and finishing up our school and national testing this week, so haven't been able to check in with everyone much.

Copper has been ok. He has really good days and some just ok days. I really haven't concentrated on him too much the last month so the testing is sporatic. We are getting ready to leave for vacation to NC outerbanks(hatteras Island and Ocracoke) for a week and taking the whole gang with us(kids, cats and dog). It is an 8hr drive in the car and know it is going to be stressful for copper, but have no one to take care of him here. So he has to go...Should be interesting....

WHat do you all do dosing wise the day of travels? Not sure i will have much time to test him on the day of travels. Do you shoot low or the same?

Also,

For those of you that can; Do you mind looking over my SS and just tell me what you are seeing in patterns and where you would think the dosing should be? It's just always good to have other eyes looking at it.

THANKS!!!

There are a lot of new people here that i don't know yet, but the older ones i've kept up with. Looking good!!! Keep up the good work all and praying for some good cycles for you!!!

Hi Lori,

Sounds like a great adventure at the beach with all the kids and animals. When we traveled with Oliver, we just got an amps and shot as usual. Figured he might be stressed on the ride but at least wouldn't go low.

I think the ss looks pretty good. Still have some higher amps, but generally nice yellows and blues. Not bad!

Copper puzzles me, Lori.
I look at the AM cycles since the 10th, and I think "hey wow, it looks like that dose does just what you want it to. The PMPS is lower than the AMPS, there's no low number to cause a bounce, so that makes sense....good dose!" And then something happens overnight, and the AMPS is right back up there? And I don't see numbers at night that would be causing that. I mean, maybe he does drop at night while we're all sleeping, but you can't stay up 24/7 to check it, right? All I can guess is that there needs to be a bigger incremental step in the nighttime dose. For instance, you shoot a 1.7 into a pink number, and it looks like it works great, giving you a yellow PMPS, or at least a much lower pink one than you started with in the morning. At night, you've been reducing to 1.6 or 1.5 in most cases with the yellow PMPS numbers. Maybe he does go lower at night than we think he does, and the next morning is a bounce from that? Maybe the night doses on the yellows need to be lower, like 1.4 or 1.2? It's the only thing I can think of...

As far as how much to shoot while on the road....
Is Copper stressed out in the car? If so, then he'll give you stress induced test numbers, in which case, you would have to think of them as possibly lower in terms of what you would shoot? If he's stressed out from being away from home, and he'll still be stressed when you get to your destination, then I would say that you would shoot the number you get. But if he's stressed in the car, and calm once you get there, then the stress will have dissipated, and the numbers would drop down to "stress free". It doesn't take long for stress BG to go away once they are in a place where they don't feel stress. I think it's sort of like an adrenaline rush.
I think it's going to come down to "you know your cat" and can tell if he's feeling stressed out next week. Then you'll be able to evaluate how much of the meter reading is due to how he's feeling, and how much of it is "real". If you are shooting before you hit the road, then any stress from the ride won't matter. And by the time you are ready for his next shot, you should already be there, and he will have had a chance to calm down. I just wouldn't pay much attention to any numbers you get while you are driving. Probably wouldn't even worry about testing him in the car at all. Give his ears a rest, and you and the family enjoy the the scenery!

LOL, no, not deeper.... Just more wordy! And maybe more dense?

Great advice!!. I was thinking the same thing Carl on the overnight numbers. I was thinking of shooting lower and see where he goes for morning dose. But sometimes, when i shoot lower on the yellows, he stays high. So weird...I know i should be testing, but just can't test in middle of night. My DH does the feeding at 4:30am before he leaves for work. I'm usually in deep sleep world at that point. Only get about 4-6hrs a day anyway. Also, i was thinking that the only difference at night vs. the day is that he is INACTIVE. He sleeps all night at my feet or chest. During the day he is chasing moths, squirrels, chipmunks, birds, etc. So maybe it's the activity. Who knows. I'm thinking too that maybe i should be going up to 1.8u too on the high 300's. i also have noticed that if i really do SUBQ his shots and bubble up under the skin, he seems to drop faster, thus absorbs faster. But then, his pmps is higher. WHen i don't "bubble" it, he seems to slowly absorb and his pmps is better, but doesn't go to green, just low blue. I would love the green's, but rather have him level throughout the day on blue's. What do you think? It's so hard to "bubble it" though.

As for the trip; YES he always stressed out in the car. I think after a day or two he will calm down. But i'm sure he will be major stressed out. Hate it, but it's the best choice i had. I'll try to remember not to shoot to the higher number and just stay at the usual (1.7u or less). Who knows. Maybe he will like the ocean breeze!

THanks again for all the advice!!!!

Lori -

Hatteras is great - and my dogs used to especially LOVE Canadian Hole (where the wind surfers/sail boarders hang out. The water is calm (sound side), gradual enough to walk out, but deep enough for Kirby (cocker spaniel sized) to swim! It was always fun! Murphy liked the waves when she was younger, but they can get pretty rough on the ocean side. I think we were down near the point where the two currents come together... but we also used to go to the ocean side just north of Hatteras where HWY 12 washed out (so many times) - there may even be a new inlet there! Dogs LOVED IT!

Unfortunately, Dom & Jack don't like water! Dom's been to the beach once... he prefered the car to flying kites at Canadian Hole!

Have a fabulous time! Post some pics when you can!

On DCIN's transport paperwork, it said not to give kitty insulin on the morning of the trip. Not sure about the reasoning. Maybe high is better than the risk of low? Not really sure.

Thanks for the info on Canadian Hole. Our dog is almost 12yrs old and is really arthritic. She loves to swim the calm waters. We will check this place out. We usually stay at ocracoke, but decided to try something different. Besides the house was much, much cheaper, on the beach, and has it's own private pool. Hope it's warm enough to swim a little. My dog, annie, will love it for sure. I'm sure this will be her last time at the beach. Going downhill fast. Hate seeing this as she was our "1st" child.

Will try and send some pictures if i can figure out how to download them.

Here's 2 of my favorite pics from Kirby's last trip to the beach. She was 16. Dom was maybe 1 or 2. Love these!

We love the Outer Banks, Nags Head is our favorite. Never taken the kitties with us, though.

When we took Hershey to Wilmington last month, we planned our departure time around his shot time. So, we were able to shoot before we left, not having to worry about the travel stress inflating his BG.

I hope y'all have a wonderful, relaxing time away!!

Libby (and Hershey, too!)
