HI EVERYBODY,
I THOUGHT I WOULD GIVE U A BIT OF AN UPDATE, I'M NOT VERY GOOD GETTING AROUND ON THIS FORUM, BUT U ALL MAKE IT EASIER. I HAVE STOPPED TESTING FOR NOW, BOOGAR IS DOING BETTER, PICKY EATING, WHICH SHE NEVER DID BEFORE, BUT STILL EATING, I'M GOING TO TEST HER TODAY, USING THE PROPER LANCET'S, WHICH BY THE WAY I FOUND OUT FROM YOU, MY FRIENDS. I LIVE IN CALIFORNIA ON THE CENTRAL COAST.

THANKS AGAIN

PATTI

Hi Patti! That's great that you are going to test Boogar today! Since she had that hypo episode a few days ago (mistakenly injected with 10 units instead of 1 unit), she may be more sensitive to the insulin than she was before -- and the 1 unit you are giving her now may even be too much for her. In fact, some cats that have gone through a hypo episode (and survived) no longer need insulin at all. But by testing Boogar, you can make sure she is safe at the 1 unit level recommended by your vet. Let us know what her blood glucose (BG) number looks like today, and how long it was taken after you gave Boogar her last shot.

Also, if you need help setting up a spreadsheet to keep track of Boogar's numbers, let us know and we can help. You record Boogar's numbers on the spreadsheet each day, and that will help the more experienced members of the board guide you in caring for Boogar in the future. Here's a link to read up on the spreadsheet: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=18207

Patti, once you learn to hometest and are giving insulin every day, you never stop testing. Always test before ever shooting insulin no matter the years.

Also, please remove the cap lock on your computer. We only use caps to bring attention to something. It makes it harder to read a post when it is done in all caps.

Melanie

hi,
I took her test about 11:00 am and it was 94, I just took it about 3:30 and it's 128, I gave her first shot at 5:00 am, I am about to give her next shot at 5:00 pm.
I don't like to test too much but I get kind of scared these days and I have a feeling she is not going to be needing insulin for a long period of time. I really do not want to take her to the Dr. on thurs for her curve, but the Dr said she is going to show me how to do the curve at home so I have to bite the bullet. thanks again for your help.

Patti

There is really nothing to show plus stress at the vet could mess up the curve. You just test before feeding and then every 2 hrs. til evening test and shot. Save your money and get better results at home.

Thank you for removing the caps :-D

Hi Hope,
you talked me into it, if thats all they do, I think maybe I can handle it and save some money.
thankyou

Patti

Yes- all a curve is is testing every two hours, every one hour between +5 and +7 or 8. And for every time they test you get charged money- way more than one of your strips cost (my vet charged $11/test- my strip costs $.29 cents/test). Plus you cannot go by the vet curve as it is stress inflated. And- for MY old vet- they considered a 'curve' an AMPS test and a PMPS test, nothing in between. And I got charged another $12.50 for them to GIVE the insulin for both the AMPS and the PMPS.

If they insist on bringing in your cat ask them EXACTLY what they plan to do that you aren't going to be doing at home.
-You will be testing the same amount, possibly more.
-There is no vet stress to raise her numbers.
-She isn't in a cage at the vet listening to the dogs bark with vet techs poking her every two or three hours- or clipping her NAILS to get blood every two to three hours (how my first vet got blood- they clipped her claws)

If they still insist ask if they will be doing it for free- since you already know how to test and Boogar is used to it.

If they gripe about the meter being for humans tell them to ADD 20 points to get a 'pet' reading.
