Boo cat is in a current "honeymoon" stage of her diabetes. Only just diagnosed in June and has had a heck of time getting adjusted. She had a hyperglycemia episode on the 20th. Her numbers have been around and under 200 since then without her being on Prozinc insulin. It seems in exchange she has decided to turn her nose to all foods. She is so far only consuming gravy from her wet food.

I've taken her in to my vet and she received a B12 shot to perk her up. She struggling with a swollen back paw as well.

Do you ever feel like no matter how much you try to keep your kitty together they keep reverting?

Sorry you're going through this! How long has she been not eating? What does your vet say about it? Can you tell us what kind(s) of food she is eating? My kitty will sometimes turn his nose up at his food; I crush and sprinkle Pure Bites treats over his food, that helps a lot; some people sprinkle parmesan cheese on their kitty's food, too.

"...She had a hyperglycemia episode..." Do you mean hypoglycemic, where her BG dropped too low? Or was it too high?

Don't get discouraged, we've all had the feeling our kitties are going backwards instead of forwards! There's a saying here, that I've been reminded of more than once, lol, that this is a marathon, not a sprint. It takes time and patience. You'll get tons of help and support here at FDMB, so hang in there!

Hey, sorry you are experiencing a set back with Boo but the great news is that she is on a honeymoon since only being DX in June! That is awesome. Does Boo have any other issues right now, like being constipated? That in itself can cause them not to eat out of being uncomfortable and being nauseous. Is boo licking/smacking her lips? That is an indicator of being nauseous and then they don't want to eat.

Sorry my autocorrect failed, she had a sugar crash, hypoglycemic.

Interesting that you mentioned the lip smacking, she does that and I offer her water when she does that. She drinks for a while and goes to sleep. I'll bring that up with my vet.

You might add warm water to the pate food and make a gravy. That would be lower carb than the gravy foods.

If her paw is infected or if she is in pain, that could throw her off her food?

She's taking an anti-inflammatory, which makes her feel great because she gets cuddly. The paw is not infected, but gets checked again tomrrow. I shall keep you all informed.

Thank you

I always add a little warm water to Squallie's food; he doesn't seem to like the consistency of it right out of the can, but he loves it when it's a little "soupier."

Yes, please keep us updated! :)

Maybe the anti-inflammatory she is taking is making her nauseous thus the lip-smacking. Did the no eating coincide with the anti-inflammatory? Glad she is going back to the vet tomorrow. Hopefully you can her to eat with maybe a bit of parmesan cheese sprinkled on top, or her favorite treats crushed and sprinkled on top. Maybe a little poach chicken for her? Keep up posted.

ETA: the vet can RX something for the nausea.

Thank you all for the support. I finally had a successful double dinner. I tried the Parmesan cheese and that got her to lick down a half dinner to take the anti-inflammatory. The pain pill is known to cause nauseous, but she had been licking lips for a a few days prior. Several hours later she ate half of her chicken gravy dinner. Hooray! She's done with the pills now, tomorrow there should be some more answers from the vet visit.

Again, thank you all for the fast responses and encouragement.
