Help, quick question! My mom's cat, non-diabetic, is constipated with a hard tummy and meowing uncomfortably. What are some home remedies that might help? Thank you!

If it's just constipation, adding canned pumpkin to the diet can help move things through.
I don't know if the hard tummy and meowing could be something more, though, so hopefully others here will chime in and give some better advice.

Yes, hopefully if it's just constipation you can use Miralax (human product available in any drugstore/most stores)...my cat has chronic constipation due to his health issues...but I mix 1 tsp in his food once every day and it really helps! My Persian gets some as well since they share the same food and I find it helps her to have better bowel movements also.

If the kitty is that uncomfortable I strongly recommend that you get it to a vet ASAP for a proper examination to make sure that there is no blockage. Adding bulk to the diet or initiating other treatments without making sure of that would be like building pressure behind a dam and it could do a lot of harm, not good.

There is great information on all things kitty constipation (including prevention) at:

First, get to the vet; your cat may need an enema before doing anything else.

And, it may not be constipation - imaging may show if it is constipation or some other kind of blockage, such as foreign material (I have a cat that eats plastic bags) or a tumor.
