WHAT IS RECOMENDED FOR CONSTIPATED CAT. MEL IS ON METRONIDOZOLE AND PROZINC AND FLIXOTIDE INHALER. MEL HAS PANCRATITIS AND SUSPECTED LYNMPHOMA OR IBD, THE GMC HAIRBALL REMEDIES GIVE HIM SOME RELEIF, AS DOES THE PETROMALT, HOWEVER I BELIEVE THEY ARE NOT GOOD FOR THE BG? ANY RECOMENDATIONS THAT REALLY WORK?
THANKS,
MERRIE AND MEL.

I have not had to deal much at all with constipation in any of my cats so I can’t be of much use.. but I do know that plain mashed pumpkin is good for constipation and won’t effect the BG.
You can either buy it in cans... make sure it is plain pumpkin with nothing else added, or you can boil up some pumpkin in water, drain, mash and use.
Put any extra in ice cube trays and freeze then bag and use as needed.
Start with small amounts but you can give a teaspoon twice a day in food. Most cats seem to like the taste.

Miralax works well for Sophie. I dissolve it in water first then mix it into her wet food and she doesn’t even notice. I think it’s generally best to start with a small dose and work up if needed, that way the stool doesn’t get TOO soft. Sophie gets 1/8 tsp once a day, but others start at 1/4 tsp

I think pumpikin is a great idea but if Mel doesn't like it ( not all cats accept it ) you can also try psyllium (natural without any flavor) you only need to give a very little amount, you can mix it with the food, for what I know the maximun dose is 1/8 teaspoon but you should start with less, I actually give about 1/32 teaspoon

Thanks. Pumpkin was a no. Even tried mixing g it with his food, he just ate around it.

Dusty was on MiraLax for several years and worked just fine. I would just sprinkle it in his food and mix in a little. His new food (Weruva) eliminated the need though.

Yes that happens Babu will not even try food if it has pumpkin and one of my civies started eating it ok but after a while she wouldn't have anything to do with it, that's when I tried psyllium and since you put a very very small amount they usually do not notice it, just make sure is well mixed with the food to avoid him noticing or aspirating it .

Another good one is butter. Most cats are lactose intolerant and love butter, mix the two and you get soft poop o_O. Just a little spoonful on a dish and let him lick it up. If he has IBD it might mess up his tummy though or it might sooth it...
